Overview
The Senior Bookkeeper I is a highly skilled accounting professional responsible for managing multiple client engagements, ensuring financial accuracy, and mentoring junior team members. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic, service-driven environment and has advanced experience with QuickBooks Online (QBO) and QuickBooks Desktop (QBD), financial reporting, and reconciliations.
You’ll partner closely with clients, operate with a high level of independence, and collaborate with senior accounting leaders to deliver exceptional results.
Primary Responsibilities
Client & Engagement Management
- Manage and prioritize workflows across multiple clients with varying industries and complexity.
- Act as the primary point of contact, providing proactive communication, insights, and guidance.
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve the client experience.
Technical Bookkeeping
- Perform and review advanced reconciliations (bank, credit card, loans, payroll clearing).
- Manage full-cycle AP/AR, including vendor bills, invoicing, payments, and collections follow-up.
- Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow).
- Record and review complex journal entries and maintain accurate general ledgers.
- Troubleshoot discrepancies and ensure clean, audit-ready files.
QuickBooks Expertise
- Set up, optimize, and maintain QBO/QBD files tailored to client needs.
- Utilize bank feeds and automation tools for efficiency and accuracy.
- Support payroll setup, processing, and filings as needed.
Compliance & Reporting
- Maintain data accuracy through regular reviews and cleanup work.
- Monitor and assist with sales tax tracking, filing, and remittance.
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes; support audit readiness.
Team Leadership & Mentorship
- Review work prepared by Bookkeeper I and II team members.
- Provide coaching, guidance, and support on complex transactions and best practices.

Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 3+ years of bookkeeping experience in a multi-client, outsourced accounting, or franchise environment.
- Advanced proficiency with QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop.
- Experience with payroll, sales tax compliance, and financial reporting.
- Comfort working in cloud-based systems and accounting technology tools.
