Shape How Enterprise Data Is Governed and Used

Rackner is seeking a Senior Data Governance Specialist to help build and operationalize the governance model behind a modern federal data environment.

You’ll connect governance strategy with implementation; shaping how data is classified, stewarded, accessed, measured, protected, and managed across the organization. Working alongside Government stakeholders and technical teams, you’ll help turn governance standards into practices people can actually use across Microsoft Fabric, Purview, Entra ID, and related data environments.

This is an opportunity to influence an evolving governance program rather than simply maintain an established one, with meaningful ownership across stewardship, metadata, data quality, classification, access governance, and governance maturity.

What You’ll Do

  • Shape and mature enterprise data governance standards, policies, workflows, and operating practices.
  • Establish data standards, naming conventions, and quality thresholds across Microsoft Fabric and Ed-Fi environments.
  • Build and strengthen a distributed stewardship model, including steward identification, protocols, training, regional coordination, and communities of practice.
  • Turn governance strategy into operating processes for data-quality reviews, access requests, governance forums, and issue resolution.
  • Develop classification, marking, retention, and lifecycle practices aligned with federal requirements.
  • Help define Master Data Management strategy and enterprise data-management standards.
  • Configure and mature Microsoft Purview capabilities, including sensitivity labels, data domains, access policies, and DLP controls.
  • Design and validate data-access controls and RBAC aligned with the governance framework and Microsoft Entra ID.
  • Partner with Government stakeholders to create governance artifacts, measure adoption, and report progress against governance maturity objectives.

What Will Help You Succeed

We’re looking for someone who has helped design, implement, or materially improve enterprise data governance, not simply worked within an existing governance process.

Relevant background may include:

  • Enterprise data-governance frameworks or operating models
  • Data stewardship programs, councils, or communities of practice
  • Metadata management, business glossaries, or enterprise data catalogs
  • Data classification and sensitivity-labeling frameworks
  • Data-quality standards, thresholds, metrics, or remediation processes
  • Access governance, RBAC, identity-integrated controls, or approval workflows
  • Microsoft Purview or comparable enterprise governance/catalog platforms
  • Federated governance models
  • Federal, DoD, or similarly regulated data environments

We care about what you personally owned, implemented, and improved; including the decisions you made, how governance was adopted, and what changed as a result.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CDMP, DGSP, or comparable data-management certification
  • Hands-on work with Microsoft Purview governance capabilities
  • Familiarity with the DoD Data Strategy, VAULTIS goals, or comparable federal data-management frameworks
  • Background establishing or operating federated governance models
  • Demonstrated work developing data-classification or access-governance frameworks

Why Rackner

At Rackner, you’ll have the opportunity to help establish governance at the point where enterprise data strategy meets technical implementation.

Your work will go beyond producing policies and documentation. You’ll help create the stewardship structures, standards, controls, and operating practices that allow teams to use data more consistently and responsibly across a modernizing environment.

You’ll also work across governance and technology—giving you exposure to Microsoft Purview, Fabric, Entra ID, data quality, metadata, classification, access governance, and enterprise stewardship while supporting mission-critical public-sector work.
