About Us

The Technology Development department comprises of diverse groups of curious, world class engineering specialists. We are experts in our fields, and we ensure Dyson products are on the edge of what’s possible. The department encompasses specialist groups across different disciplines – Product Performance, Acoustics, Fluid Dynamics, Structural Dynamics, Thermodynamics. This role resides within the Product Performance group, which provides the technical analysis of exciting new category of products within Dyson.

Main Duties/Responsibilities:

1. Technical

  • Able to identify the fundamental factors that contribute to the desired performance metric.

  • Able to utilize appropriate modeling tools to make optimization / or predictions.

  • Able to Analyse and make recommendation from experimental tests / analytical assessments of data, analysis should hold up to a high standard of technical rigor.

  • Able to design tests and corresponding test plans that efficiently seek to identify and optimize performance and stays authentic to the customers experience of performance.

  • Write scripts / Excel / Minitab analysis to create predictive models for performance, have the technical know-how to assess the suitability of your chosen approach and provide clear recommendations to your audience.

  • Able to propose design mitigations, recommendations to achieve performance targets

2. Process

  • Able to formulate a good problem statement before devoting time to solving a problem

  • Identify, characterize, and highlight risk in a clear and concise manner

  • Assess the lower-level requirements that affect performance to ensure hair style and drying performance meets the claim target.

  • Able to weight up complex interactions between systems and provide a balanced recommendation on factors effecting performance that is best for the customer and Dysons goals.

3. Career Development

  • Take ownership of career development and aim for progression into a product performance expert.

  • Develop technical competencies by active involvement in projects, self-learning, and training.

  • Be a contributor team member in helping the organization drive technical excellence and capability growth in delivering superior hair style and dry performance.

  • Help to influence the structure and ways of working within the team.

4. Collaborate / Communication

  • Collaborate with a project team to deliver optimized hair style and drying performance in line with product vision.

  • Communicate well with the stakeholders, present work in a coherent well documented manor.

  • Able to be an influential stakeholder by showing a strong and coherent work ethic and logical approach to your work.

  • Able to guide, influence and support more junior members of the team.

  • Ensure work is well document and in a state that can be referenced by all for future use.

5. Problem Solving

  • Able to assess multiple arguments for a complex problem and derive the best solution, whilst managing expectation of stakeholders.

  • Actively challenge status quo and support improvement initiatives. Identify and develop new opportunities/tools/methods with the aim of enhancing the performance, reliability, and time to market of Dyson products.

About You

Qualifications:

  • At least a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

  • Ideally 5+ years’ experience in product design and development, or equivalent relevant experience, lesser experience may be considered for the right candidate.

  • Strong working knowledge of engineering fundamentals, measurement analysis and statistical analysis.

  • Competency in Minitab, MATLAB or Excel or other data acquisition/processing tool.

  • Some competencies in the use and application of CAD/CAE tools in general are preferred.

  • Reasonable experience in statistical modelling such as multiple regression modelling is preferred.

Interpersonal skills:

  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills in English

  • Ability to receive constructive feedback and coaching, and respond appropriately. Able to coach less experienced engineers.

  • Proficiently communicate ideas and concepts, frequently tailoring communication to suit different levels. Ability to persuade and influence others as needed, typically within a project team.

  • Ensure cooperation and interaction across diverse stakeholders, often managing familiar and less challenging internal customers.

Extent of guidance or control:

  • Generally characterized as an "Independent Contributor" with the ability to discover issues and recommend solutions.

  • Able to work independently on the more varied and complex tasks and/or demonstrate functional leadership without direct supervision as needed.

  • Shall be a role model to more junior engineers and may be expected to manage / support them when required.
