Mayvin is currently seeking a Senior Human Factors Engineer to provide support to the Test & Evaluation (T&E) Division in the Department Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (DHS FEMA). This individual will provide human factors engineering (HFE) expertise throughout the test and evaluation lifecycle of CBRN detection systems, ensuring that operator interfaces, workflows, and system designs support safe, accurate, and efficient use by first responders, and other end users under operational conditions. This role integrates human performance data into T&E planning and reporting, evaluates usability and workload during developmental and operational testing, and advises Product Management Offices on design or training changes needed to reduce operator error and improve mission effectiveness.

Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Must have an active Secret clearance.

This position is contingent upon award.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead human factors analysis and evaluation across CBRN detection system testing including usability assessments, workload analysis, task analysis, and human-system interface (HSI) evaluation — and incorporate the results into test and evaluation master plans and test reports to support acquisition decision-making
  • Design and execute human-in-the-loop test events (e.g., usability testing, cognitive walkthroughs, operator workload assessments) at government and contractor facilities, participating in Test Readiness Reviews, Deficiency Review Boards, and Operational Readiness Reviews to surface human performance risks
  • Analyze operator error data, near-miss/incident reports, and system alarm/alert design to identify human factors deficiencies and recommend design, training, or procedural mitigations to Product Management Offices and engineering teams
  • Collaborate with systems engineers, and program stakeholders to ensure human factors requirements are traceable, testable, and reflected in requirements documents, ICDs, and Systems Engineering Plans, consistent with DHS MD 102-01 and Directive 026-06.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Factors Engineering, Cognitive Psychology, Industrial/Systems Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 8 years of human factors engineering experience, including experience supporting DoD or DHS T&E programs; direct experience with detection, sensor, or screening equipment strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience conducting usability testing, task analysis, workload assessment, and human-system interface evaluation for complex operational equipment
  • Working knowledge of human systems integration (HSI) practices within federal acquisition T&E frameworks
  • Strong technical writing skills for human factors sections of test plans, test and evaluation master plans, and test report, and ability to brief findings to non-human factor technical and leadership audiences

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Human Factors Engineering, Cognitive Psychology, Industrial /Systems Engineering, or Ph D. for senior-level scope
  • Prior experience with CBRN detection technologies or CWMD/FEMA programs specifically
  • Certification such as Certified Human Factors Professional (CHFP) or equivalent.
  • Experience with front-line operator populations (e.g., first responders) and field-based data collection
  • Familiarity with data anomaly detection or alarm design for automated/algorithmic detection systems (relevant where human factors intersects with CBRN threat algorithms)
