This is a very exciting and highly innovative time here at Outside.

OUR TRUE NORTH:Outside Interactive, Inc., the premier hub for active lifestyle enthusiasts, offers best-in-class content and experiences to more than 70 million of the world’s most passionate outdoor, wellness, and endurance enthusiasts every month. We inspire a broad and diverse audience to do the activities they love with greater enjoyment, inspiration, and knowledge and are dedicated to making real change in the outdoor and fitness industries.

This role sits within Outside’s Consumer Apps organization, which owns the strategy, growth, and product experience across Outside’s consumer-facing applications, including mapping, fitness, media, and commerce-adjacent experiences.

The Mapping division is a core pillar of Consumer Apps, providing the foundational capabilities and user experiences that power how members plan, navigate, and engage with the outdoors across multiple Outside brands. Mapping products serve both as standalone consumer experiences and as shared platforms that enable other Consumer Apps to deliver differentiated value.

We are hiring a Senior Product Manager, Mapping to lead the vision, strategy, and execution of Outside’s core mapping platforms and user-facing mapping experiences across this portfolio.

This is a senior, high-impact role for a product leader who combines strong consumer product instincts with deep systems thinking. You will own end-to-end outcomes across discovery, planning, navigation, and data-driven mapping experiences—balancing user value, technical foundations, and business results.

You will work closely with Engineering, Design, Growth, Content, Data, and Platform teams across Outside’s Consumer Apps organization to evolve our mapping products into world-class, scalable experiences.

What You’ll Do:

Product Vision & Strategy

  • Own the long-term vision and strategy for Outside’s mapping platforms and user experiences across mobile and web.
  • Translate company and portfolio-level strategy into a clear, outcome-driven roadmap with well-defined milestones and success metrics.
  • Identify and articulate key product bets, tradeoffs, and sequencing decisions grounded in user needs, data, and technical constraints.

User-Centered Product Development

  • Develop a deep understanding of outdoor users across activities (hiking, backpacking, overlanding, skiing, riding, running, etc.) and use cases (planning, navigation, safety, discovery).
  • Lead discovery through qualitative research, quantitative analysis, and rapid experimentation.
  • Define clear problem statements, customer journeys (CUJs), and product requirements that align teams and accelerate execution.

Execution & Delivery Excellence

  • Partner closely with Engineering and Design to deliver high-quality, scalable mapping features from concept through GA.
  • Own prioritization across short-term delivery needs and long-term platform investments.
  • Drive clear documentation, alignment, and decision-making across cross-functional stakeholders.

Metrics, Outcomes & Business Impact

  • Define, own, and evangelize success metrics across engagement, retention, and revenue contribution.
  • Use data to evaluate product performance, identify opportunities, and inform roadmap evolution.
  • Contribute to business planning and P&L awareness, articulating how mapping investments drive member value and company growth.

Platform & Ecosystem Thinking

  • Help shape the evolution of Outside’s broader mapping platform, including data pipelines, map rendering, layering systems, and integrations.
  • Collaborate across brands to identify shared capabilities, reduce duplication, and increase leverage.

Leadership & Influence

  • Serve as a strong product leader within the Mapping organization, raising the bar for product thinking, clarity, and execution.
  • Mentor and support other product managers, fostering a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.

What We’re Looking For

Required Experience

  • 7+ years of product management experience building and scaling consumer-facing products.
  • Proven track record of owning complex product areas end-to-end, from discovery through delivery and iteration.
  • Strong experience working with designers and engineers to ship polished, high-quality mobile and web experiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to define success metrics, analyze results, and adjust strategy based on data.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to align diverse stakeholders.
  • Comfort operating in ambiguous problem spaces and making principled tradeoffs.

Product & Technical Depth

  • Experience with modern software development practices, including agile delivery and iterative experimentation.
  • Ability to reason about platform architecture, technical constraints, and long-term system health—even if you are not an engineer.
  • Experience collaborating on products with meaningful backend complexity.

Mindset & Approach

  • Strong user empathy paired with business judgment.
  • Outcome-oriented, execution-focused, and comfortable owning hard decisions.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a bias toward learning and impact.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with mapping or geospatial products (consumer or enterprise), including tools like OpenStreetMap, ESRI, or custom mapping stacks.
  • Familiarity with geospatial data concepts such as map layers, routing, tiles, GPS, and offline data.
  • Ability to write SQL or use analytics tools to explore product performance independently.
  • Experience integrating content (editorial, video, or community-generated) into product experiences.
  • Technical fluency, including knowledge of at least one programming language.
