Lead selection, due diligence, and monitoring of private equity, real estate, private credit and hedge fund managers. Analyze risks, exposures and performance drivers; prepare investment approvals and client materials; mentor junior researchers; support client meetings and adhere to risk, regulatory, and internal control standards.
Overview:
Identifies, analyzes and recommends alternative investments to improve portfolio outcomes for clients.
Primary Responsibilities:- Manager selection, due diligence and monitoring across private equity, private real estate, private credit and hedge funds
- Collaborate with client-facing colleagues to strengthen their understanding of investment solutions.
- Participate in client and prospect meetings to help solidify current relationships and to develop new business.
- Analyze risks, exposures and performance drivers of investment strategies.
- Manage and allocate research work to less experienced teammates.
- Prepare documentation to approve investments, and communicate portfolio performance, investment options, risks and pending decisions.
- Conduct regular meetings and calls to discuss organizational developments, investment strategy and performance/risk.
- Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
- Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
- Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
- Complete other related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience, OR in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 9 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience
- Strong understanding of capital markets and current knowledge of the state of the industry
- Excellent written and presentation skills
- Proficient with common industry tools, including Bloomberg, FactSet and Morningstar Direct
- Highly analytical, research-driven skill set
- Prior experience communicating insights to internal and external stakeholders
- Hands on investment experience in alternative asset classes at wealth manager, family office, foundation, endowment, consultant or other institutional asset management firm
- Minimum of 7 years’ relevant experience
- CFA, progress toward obtaining CFA designation
- Advanced Degree

- Experience mentoring and developing junior teammates
