Job Description:

The Opportunity

Epiq is looking for a technical leader who is equally comfortable leading people and getting into the details of SQL.

As a Senior Solutions Architect Manager, you’ll lead managers and technical professionals responsible for complex, data-intensive solutions while remaining close enough to the technology to review T-SQL, troubleshoot performance issues, guide technical decisions, and contribute hands-on when needed.

This is not a pure people-management position. We’re looking for an established technical manager with recent T-SQL experience who can provide credible technical leadership while managing people, projects, priorities, and stakeholder relationships. David identified recent T-SQL experience, management experience, and strong communication as the three primary requirements.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead, coach, and develop managers and technical professionals responsible for complex data-driven solutions.
  • Remain technically engaged by reviewing SQL/T-SQL code, answering technical questions, troubleshooting issues, and contributing hands-on when needed.
  • Provide guidance around SQL Server development, query tuning, database performance, and solution design.
  • Work with extremely large and complex datasets. The hiring manager described tables containing billions of rows and an overall data environment involving approximately a trillion or more rows.
  • Lead large projects while balancing multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Partner with clients and their data experts to discuss technical topics such as incoming data, incomplete files, data rollups, and other data-processing considerations.
  • Translate complex business requirements into practical technical solutions.
  • Build strong partnerships across technical teams, business stakeholders, and leadership.
  • Help your teams navigate periods of changing priorities and deadline-driven work.

What We’re Looking For
Required
  • 5+ years of experience managing technical teams.
  • Current or recent experience in an established technical management position.
  • 10+ years of SQL Server and/or relational database experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL Server and recent hands-on T-SQL experience.
  • Strong experience with query tuning and database performance optimization. The hiring manager identified performance experience as a must-have.
  • Experience working with large, complex datasets.
  • Strong people-management and technical-leadership capabilities.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Experience managing large projects and changing priorities.
  • Comfort collaborating directly with clients and technical stakeholders.
  • Based in the United States.

Nice to Have
  • Experience working with data at significant scale, including datasets containing billions of records.
  • Experience automating outgoing file transmissions and receiving/loading incoming files.
  • Experience with C#, ASP.NET MVC, JavaScript, Angular, React, or related software-development technologies. A .NET background is helpful but is not required for the role.
  • Legal Services or class-action experience is beneficial but not required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field preferred.

Why This Role Is Interesting

This is a strong opportunity for a seasoned SQL technical manager who doesn't want to completely step away from the technology.

You'll have the opportunity to lead experienced technical professionals while solving challenging database and data-processing problems at significant scale. The role combines people leadership, SQL expertise, technical problem-solving, project leadership, and client collaboration.
