Reporting to the Senior Technical Training Manager, Knowledge Solutions, the Senior Technical Training Specialist supports Technical Training Leadership and Business Operations in the planning, development, and delivery of technical training solutions for UL products, standards, certifications, and emerging technologies for external clients.
This role focuses on enabling technical competency and specialized knowledge within UL Solutions' business areas through a combination of Learning Management System (LMS) administration, project management, and instructional design. The position manages projects from initiation through delivery, collaborates with cross-functional stakeholders, and ensures technical learning initiatives are completed on schedule, within budget, and aligned with business and customer needs.
The three main areas of focus are: LMS Management, Project Management, and some Instructional Design.
This is a full-time, hybrid (3 days in-office) position located at our Northbrook, IL office.

Total Rewards: We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. The estimated salary range for this position is $90,000- $105,000 and is based on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, as well as other factors. This position is eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 10% of the base salary. This position also provides health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental and financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country. We also provide full-time employees with paid time off including vacation (15 days), holiday and personal days (totaling 12 days), and sick time off (72 hours).

RESPONSIBILITIES
- With minimal guidance, lead local/regional/global training projects. Proactively communicate to key stakeholders.
- Collaborate with Technical Training Leadership to develop and implement yearly training calendars and plans focused on technical and science-based programs.
- Create technical training items from single courses to full curricula in the Learning Management System (Absorb) and assign them to individuals or groups as requested. Align and drive to technical competency identification.
- Ensure the effectiveness of the Learning Management System (Absorb) based on the business and customer needs of product and standard based learning.
- Evaluate training effectiveness and suggest program adjustments based on the objectives and the evaluation of technically focused curriculum. Share best practices with other team members. Provide advice and apply diverse approaches to help participants learn effectively.
- Understand key control points of multi-level technical standards and product aligned projects and manage risks to keep projects on track. Be sensitive to situational changes and proactively adapt.
- Partner with sales and marketing to identify the technical training and education needs of the business units and customers.
- Responsible for the creation of technical education materials in various mediums as well as support of customer engagements including Instructor Led Program, e learning, and various digital delivery products.
- Responsible for vendor relationship management including timelines, product deliverables, and financials.
- Build and Maintain relationships with various associations including government entities.
- Create and execute Purchase Orders and Statements of Work.
- Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and follow all physical and digital security practices.
- Perform other duties as directed.
Technical Training Focus
- Develop and manage training programs that support technical competency, product expertise, standards interpretation, and certification requirements across UL Solutions' technical business functions.
- Partner directly with engineers, subject matter experts, technical leaders, and program owners to translate complex technical concepts into effective learning solutions.
- Support training initiatives related to evolving technologies, product categories, industry standards, testing methodologies, certification programs, and technical service offerings.
Technical Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborate with technical subject matter experts to define learning objectives, competency requirements, and training pathways for specialized technical roles.
- Serve as a liaison between Knowledge Solutions, technical business units, and external customers to ensure training solutions align with operational and technical requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Some University education in Training, Education, Instructional Design, or a related field preferred, plus generally five years professional level experience. Equivalent experience considered.
- Some Instructional Design experience is preferred.
- Background with a multi-national company preferred.
- Ability to identify and manage priorities as demonstrated by establishing, tracking, and meeting schedules for multiple projects while maintaining high quality and exceptional service to colleagues.
- Strong proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio, and PowerPoint. Experience with Learning Management Systems and digital tools preferred.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work independently.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong program/project management and leadership skills to manage projects utilizing personnel from multiple disciplines.
