Overview

Top technology vendor providing solutions for the criminal justice field. The Openfox Message Switch is the primary means of routing time-critical information to criminal justice institutions (Federal, State, International) and to first responders and others working with them. The in-house developed system is a cornerstone of CPI's comprehensive solutions, serving the industry for 30+ years. The team is looking for a thoughtful, driven, capable engineer with a love of learning and continuous improvement. The engineer will work closely with staff to deliver customer-focused solutions while keeping in mind the ability to expand Message Switch capabilities in the near future.

Years Experience

1 to 2 years (a mix of internships, software development, and software testing).

Core Fundamentals

1.     Competency with Unix or Linux Operating Systems

a.     common terminal commands

b.     process control

c.      command line editing tools

d.     basic scripting

e.     command line build tools/pipeline

i.          How to compile programs via Makefile

        ii.          compilation error familiarity

 

2.     Software Engineering

a.     Language (most familiar)

        i.          C

       ii.          Python

b.     Development good practices

c.      Concurrency, threading concepts, interprocess communication

d.     Familiarity with version control

e.     Familiarity with test management systems

f.       Knowledge of data interchange formats (e.g., XML, JSON)

g.     Define, demonstrate unit testing

h.     Integrate regression testing with project and product development

i.       Define the significance of automated testing and related tools. Must show how they applied to experiences to date.

 

3.     Software Process

a.     SDLC (for ex. Waterfall, Agile)

b.     Bug Triage

c.      Escalation, prioritization

d.     Cross-functional communication

Other Requirements

1.     Bachelor’s of Science: Computer Science or other STEM-related field preferred

2.     The ability to quickly learn and adapt

3.     This job is subject to successful completion of State and Federal background checks
