About the RoleThe Software Engineer I role involves designing, developing, and testing software applications for space systems and technologies. This entry-level position is ideal for individuals with a basic understanding of programming languages and software development principles who are eager to grow their skills in a collaborative environment. The role includes writing clean, maintainable code, collaborating with senior engineers, and staying current with industry trends.
In this role, you will design, develop, and test software applications for space systems and technologies while writing clean, maintainable code that adheres to best practices and coding standards. You will collaborate with senior engineers to understand project requirements and complete assigned tasks efficiently. Utilizing version control systems such as Git, you will manage code changes and work collaboratively with team members. You will participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and compliance with development standards, troubleshoot and resolve software-related issues in a timely manner, and document software designs, configurations, processes, and procedures for future reference. Additionally, you will stay current with industry trends and advancements in software development and space technologies to continuously improve your skills and contribute effectively to the team.About You

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Requires bachelor's degree in a related field (or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree).
  • Typically, 0 - 2+ years of experience.
  • Basic understanding of one or more programming languages and software development principles.
  • Ability to write clean, maintainable code.
  • Familiarity with version control systems such as Git.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Some exposure to or coursework/project experience related to DevOps/DevSecOps practices.
  • Basic proficiency in one or more scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipeline concepts (e.g., GitHub Actions or GitLab CI).
  • Basic familiarity with containerization technologies like Docker.
  • Familiarity with Linux environments.
  • Foundational understanding of security and software development best practices.
  • Coursework or project experience with C/C++ build tools is a plus (CMake, Conan).
  • Ability to assist in identifying inefficiencies in development workflows under guidance.
  • Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with eagerness to learn from senior team members.
  • Basic familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
  • Exposure to orchestration tools like Kubernetes is a plus.
  • Basic exposure to infrastructure as code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or Ansible.
  • Exposure to logging and monitoring tools (ELK stack, Prometheus, Grafana).


Compensation:

Pay Range:

$83,999.00 - $115,498.25

Your actual base compensation will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related knowledge and skills, education, experience, internal equity and market competitiveness.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance. U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance for employment. Non-U.S. citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance.  The Department of Defense Consolidated Adjudications Facility (DoD CAF), a federal government agency, handles the adjudicative aspects of the security clearance eligibility process for industry applicants. Adjudicative factors which affect the outcome of the eligibility determination include, but are not limited to, allegiance to the U.S., foreign influence, foreign preference, criminal conduct, security violations and illegal drug use.
