About the Role

Our Segment Optimization team is the backbone of Attentive’s audience-segmentation infrastructure, processing, storing, and optimizing data at massive scale and speed. We handle billions of events from over 100 million customers daily, enabling near-real-time audience insights and AI-driven personalization through our Data, Optimization, and ML Platforms. Joining our team offers a high-growth opportunity to work on high-impact systems alongside talented engineers.

As a Software Engineer II, you will build and improve distributed data applications that power our segmentation platform and deliver personalized experiences for our clients and their customers. You will own well-scoped features end to end, develop a strong understanding of the services you support, and partner with senior engineers and cross-functional teammates to make sound design and implementation decisions. This role is an opportunity to deepen your expertise in distributed systems, data pipelines, and real-time processing.

This team is building the segmentation platform that empowers our clients to curate audience segments, which Attentive uses across the platform to personalize content. By delivering more relevant and engaging messages, this drives higher performance for our clients and better experiences for their customers.

What You’ll Accomplish

  • Build and improve systems that power audience segmentation for more than 100 million customers, directly enabling personalized experiences across Attentive’s platform
  • Own well-scoped features end to end across distributed data applications, from design and implementation through testing, deployment, and operation
  • Partner with engineering, product, and design teammates to deliver high-quality, impactful software
  • Develop a deep understanding of the services you own, how data flows through the platform, and how your work affects clients and customers
  • Contribute to team and engineering-wide improvements, including process, infrastructure, and system enhancements
  • Use AI tools to move quickly while focusing on system behavior, architecture, and thoughtful design tradeoffs

Your Expertise

  • 2–4 years of experience as a Software Engineer, with a foundation in building backend services and a desire to deepen your skills in distributed systems
  • You have experience developing with Java, Python, or Go and a strong understanding of object-oriented design, algorithms, and optimization
  • You are familiar with relational and non-relational databases and understand how data modeling and access patterns affect system performance and reliability
  • You understand what clean, correct code looks like and follow established best practices, with a strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, and software design
  • You take ownership beyond the task and care about the end-to-end impact of your work, from operating it reliably to delivering value for customers
  • You communicate clearly and work effectively with technical and non-technical teammates
  • You are comfortable working through ambiguity and can use business goals and team guidance to turn it into clear deliverables

For US based applicants:

  • The US base salary range for this full-time position is $135,000 - $170,000 annually + equity + benefits
  • Our salary ranges are determined by role, level and location
