About the Role:
We are seeking a highly motivated and capable Software Engineer to further our Genomics AI initiatives. This person should have experience and interest in leading analysis and design of technical problems, mentoring & coaching emerging talent during this transformative time in Tech. This position requires experience with programming (full stack), relational data systems and algorithms development. Top candidates will also have experience crafting code while leveraging AI tooling and embedding agentic workflows in their product.

Responsibilities
Own end-to-end design, implementation, and delivery of core features in service of team and quarterly goals.
Integrate Generative AI tools and autonomous coding agents (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code) into your workflow to accelerate feature development, streamline test generation, and rapidly prototype solutions.
Write clean, resilient code using enterprise design patterns that are flexible, performant, and adaptable to evolving business requirements.
Contribute to microservice and database architecture decisions, keeping scalability, caching strategies, and distributed performance top of mind.
Proactively identify technical dependencies, surface roadblocks early, and coordinate with product managers and other engineering teams.
Support junior team members through constructive code reviews, pair programming, and actionable coaching.
Technical Requirements
3+ years of professional software development experience in an agile development environment.
Strong proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript, Node.js, and modern frontend frameworks like React.
Hands-on experience using GenAI coding tools and agents (e.g., Copilot, Cursor, LLM APIs) to assist in writing code, refactoring, writing unit/integration tests, and accelerating feature delivery.
Solid experience working with relational databases (PostgreSQL or MySQL) and query optimization, as well as caching solutions (Redis).
Proven track record designing RESTful/GraphQL APIs and building within distributed or microservice architectures.
Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (GCP or AWS) and CI/CD development pipelines.
Bonus Points
Experience building features that incorporate GenAI/LLM APIs into user-facing applications.
Experience with Elasticsearch/Opensearch
Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
Background in biotech, genomics, or precision medicine.
CHI: $85,000-$130,000
The expected salary range may vary for other locations. Actual salary may vary based on qualifications and experience. Tempus offers a full range of benefits, which may include incentive compensation, restricted stock units, medical and other benefits depending on the position.
