About this role:
Wells Fargo is seeking a Software Engineering Manager, as part of Global Payments Technology to lead our Payments and Fraud Product Services. Payments & Fraud Services provide critical Payments and Fraud workflows for domestic and international payment types. This technology manager will manage key application design, development, support, and end to end lifecycle management for Treasury Management customers and other lines of business.
In this role, you will:
  • Build and lead a high-performing engineering team while reviewing critical Java and Spring Boot code and contributing to high-risk deliverables
  • Own application resiliency and availability, leading major-incident response and engaging directly in complex diagnosis and remediation
  • Set engineering standards across the application lifecycle and create reference implementations or targeted code changes to reduce delivery risk
  • Lead complex initiatives end to end, resolving escalated design and coding issues, reviewing critical pull requests, and building proofs of concept
  • Set application strategy and drive improvements in APIs, service design, performance, scalability, and technical-debt reduction through architecture and code reviews
  • Shape architecture, API and data design, secure coding standards, and reference solutions for OCP or Kubernetes
  • Own strategic commitments and OKRs, governing delivery quality while directly supporting complex, high-risk changes
  • Hold strategic vendors accountable for performance, risk, cost, delivery, technical design, and code quality
  • Lead distributed U.S. and India teams while staying hands-on through design reviews, targeted pair programming, critical code reviews, and complex issue resolution
  • Develop leaders and engineering talent through strategic hiring, technical coaching, design walkthroughs, code reviews, and selective pair programming
  • Lead responsible AI engineering adoption to accelerate prototyping, code quality, test automation, and vulnerability detection
  • Influence Business, Risk, Architecture, and Platform partners through technical analysis, solution development, and measurable engineering outcomes

Required Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 5+ years of experience with Java web services, Spring Boot, Spring, Domain and Event Driven Design, Automation, DevOps, Databases (Oracle, Mongo), Kafka/ IBM MQ and SDLC tools
  • 5+ years of talent and team development, finance forecasting, risk management and ability to present to senior leadership
  • 4+ years of Cloud experience (OCP OR Kubernetes)
  • 4+ years of Agile Methodology
  • 3+ years of management or leadership experience
  • 1+ year of demonstrated experience with AI-assisted code generation and test automation

Desired Qualifications:
  • Knowledge and experience within Payment's domain
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a diverse, geographically distributed team
  • Experience with production support teams in a fast-paced, customer-facing application environment including leading high visibility production incidents where SLAs are crucial to business success
  • Demonstrated technical and hands-on experience to help be a key driver in all architectural decisions

Pay Range
Salary is just one component of Wells Fargo's total rewards package. Depending on the role, a Wells Fargo's employee may be eligible for additional forms of compensation, such as sales incentives, discretionary bonuses, and/or equity in the company in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).
Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.
$119,000.00 - $224,000.00
