Be a part of the Caterpillar IT Enterprise Data Platforms team that is responsible for delivering world class Oracle database services to customers throughout the enterprise. This position will work directly with a core team of Oracle DBAs providing technical research and leadership, project planning and implementation of a variety of technical projects, and senior level Oracle DBA support to internal customers. The ideal candidate must be a self-starter capable of thinking with an enterprise perspective while still being flexible enough to keep the business running.
What You Will Do:
  • Provide technical leadership for all aspects of database management such as database lifecycle management, monitoring, support, disaster recovery, compliance, and standards.
  • Research new Oracle database versions, features, tools, and technologies with an Enterprise perspective to meet customer needs while maintaining a secure database environment.
  • Research, benchmark, and suggest improvements to database support processes, customer experience (CX) improvements, and compliance requirements.
  • Provide 3rd and 4th level Oracle database support for complex issues.
  • Participate in and manage database related projects, database security patching audits, and compliance reviews and testing.
  • Develop new and update existing database technology related documentation as needed
  • Coach and communicate information to Caterpillar's application support teams and peers across the enterprise on Oracle technology changes, new features, key projects, and customer experience improvements
  • Participate on customer driven and Division/department projects

What You Have:
  • Bachelor's Degree in related field
  • 8+ Years experience working as a DBA with a focus on Oracle databases

Strong knowledge/expertise in:
  • Oracle Database Administration
  • Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM)
  • Database Lifecycle Management (DBLM)
  • Oracle Fleet Management module to deploy automated patching
  • Manual database patching and database upgrades
  • Installing Oracle release updates (RU) security patches on data guard, multitenant, stand alone and Real Application Cluster (RAC) databases
  • Database hardware configuration
  • Scripting (shell, Perl, emcli)
  • SQL structured query language
  • Linux / UNIX operating systems (RedHat and AIX)

Top Candidates Will Also Have:
  • Positive experience working in a geographically distributed team
  • Strong communication skills to work with DBAs and application teams in a variety of situations

Ability to:
  • Quickly learn new technologies and apply them with an enterprise perspective
  • Act in a self-directed manner, independently researching tools/libraries/technologies or solving a problem with minimal oversight and instructions
  • Provide on the job training and develop learning materials for other DBAs

Experience with:
  • Using AI to improve work efficiency as a DBA
  • Cloud computing platforms such as Microsoft Azure and/or Amazon Web Services
  • IT Service Management (ITSM) processes & Root cause analysis (RCA) processes
  • ServiceNow
  • Database security threat management and security best practices

Summary Pay Range:
$112,710.00 - $183,140.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
