A Little About Us

Yahoo Mail is the ultimate consumer inbox with hundreds of millions of users. It’s the best way to access your email and stay organized from a computer, phone, or tablet. With its beautiful design and lightning-fast speed, Yahoo Mail makes reading, organizing, and sending emails easier than ever.

The Yahoo Mail Growth & Experimentation team is responsible for designing and evolving experiences that drive user acquisition, activation, and engagement across the Mail ecosystem. We focus on running rapid experiments across key lifecycle surfaces, scaling what works, and building reusable solutions that compound impact over time.

Who We’re Looking For

We are looking for a Senior Product Designer with strong product thinking, visual craft, and systems-level design skills to work on Yahoo Mail’s growth and experimentation initiatives across desktop, mobile web, iOS, and Android. In this role, you will be embedded in a dedicated cross-functional squad while also partnering with user research, content, marketing, and platform teams to inform experience strategy and ensure design decisions are grounded in both user insight and measurable outcomes.

The ideal candidate thrives in ambiguity and brings deep experimentation instincts to complex growth decisions - leading initiatives that drive acquisition, activation, and engagement while maintaining a view of AI as a fundamental tool for increasing impact.

Responsibilities

Product designers at Yahoo Mail collaborate with cross-functional partners to define the vision for new features while owning the craftsmanship for every interaction and visual design detail. Day-to-day, you will:

  • Lead the design strategy across high-leverage growth surfaces (onboarding flows, engagement loops, lifecycle nudges, and habit systems) to drive measurable impact on activation and retention.

  • Translate growth strategy into clear experience direction by exploring and pressure-testing design solutions in partnership with Product, Engineering, and Data teams.

  • Use qualitative and quantitative insights to identify opportunities across growth surfaces, iterating on experiments to learn quickly and improve core business metrics.

  • Contribute to Yahoo Mail’s design system by creating and refining growth-related patterns that support scalable, reusable solutions.

  • Mentor other designers and facilitate critiques to resolve ambiguity and align on strategic direction across the business area.

  • Identify and implement AI-driven efficiencies in the ideation and design-to-engineering workflow, replacing repetitive manual tasks with automated or AI-assisted prototyping cycles.

  • Maintain a solutions-oriented mindset, proactively suggesting AI-driven improvements to the team’s creative process and experimentation velocity.

About You

You’re likely to succeed in this role if you:

  • Draw on all aspects of product design (IA, complex flows, motion, and visual design) to create cohesive, scalable growth experiences.

  • Think in systems, designing growth and experimentation patterns that work across surfaces while maintaining clarity and consistency.

  • Deliver consistent, polished layouts through strong typography, color, and visual hierarchy.

  • Bring a commitment to experiment velocity, ideating and shipping experiments with speed and rigor while scaling learnings into reusable patterns.

  • Partner effectively with Product Managers and Data Scientists on data-informed initiatives, using metrics such as activation rate and experiment lift to inform design decisions.

  • Comfort operating in evolving, AI-augmented environments, with a focus on continuous learning and experimentation to improve velocity while maintaining a high craft bar.

  • Demonstrate high emotional intelligence in cross-functional collaboration, contributing to a respectful, inclusive, and constructive design culture.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience designing consumer web and/or mobile products at scale, with a proven track record leading growth, onboarding, or experimentation programs.

  • Strong portfolio demonstrating user-centered product thinking, polished visual craft, and thoughtful interaction design for complex ecosystems.

  • Experience utilizing AI-powered design tools and generative workflows to accelerate exploration, prototyping, and asset generation.

  • Demonstrated experience working on growth surfaces (onboarding, notifications, engagement loops) with a track record of shipping experiments that drove measurable DAU or engagement impact.

  • Ability to own the quality bar for AI-assisted design work, ensuring high standards for craft and usability are maintained.

  • Proficiency with modern design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Cursor, Claude code, Claude design etc) to communicate concepts, flows, and specifications.

The material job duties and responsibilities of this role include those listed above as well as adhering to Yahoo policies; exercising sound judgment; working effectively, safely and inclusively with others; exhibiting trustworthiness and meeting expectations; and safeguarding business operations and brand integrity.
