Job Description:

The Senior Workday HCM Specialist – Recruiting & Talent serves as the primary owner, architect, and strategist for all Workday Recruiting configuration, optimization, and governance. This expert-level role drives end-to-end design, builds scalable solutions, and ensures the Recruiting ecosystem performs with precision and efficiency across the enterprise.

In addition to leading Recruiting configuration, this position provides functional support for key Talent modules, ensuring a connected talent lifecycle spanning attraction, hiring, development, and retention. The role partners closely with Talent Acquisition, HR, IT, and business stakeholders to convert business requirements into sophisticated Workday solutions that elevate hiring performance, data quality, and user experience.

This individual is expected to operate as a Workday SME—anticipating business needs, driving system innovation, and serving as the authoritative escalation point for complex Recruiting and Talent functionality. The role requires exceptional analytical depth, Workday knowledge, and the ability to translate operational challenges into strategic technology improvements.

Essential Responsibilities:

Workday Recruiting Ownership

  • Serve as the primary system owner and configuration authority for all Workday Recruiting functionality, including job requisition design, job posting management, hiring business processes, offer workflows, interview steps, candidate stages, and recruiting security.
  • Lead the architecture, build, testing, and deployment of all Recruiting enhancements, ensuring system stability, data integrity, and a seamless experience for recruiters, managers, and candidates.
  • Own ongoing optimization efforts, identifying opportunities to streamline workflows, reduce manual touchpoints, and strengthen compliance across the hiring lifecycle.
  • Manage complex Recruiting security roles, ensuring the right access for TA partners, hiring managers, and HR stakeholders.
  • Partner with TA leadership to develop scalable hiring processes that support operational excellence, high-volume recruiting, and long-term workforce growth.

Talent & Performance Support

  • Support configuration and enhancements across Workday Talent, including Talent Reviews, Succession, Talent Profiles, and Performance Enablement.
  • Ensure alignment between Recruiting and downstream Talent processes to create a connected, modernized talent ecosystem.
  • Recommend and deploy enhancements that improve the visibility and quality of talent data.

Workday HCM Leadership & Collaboration

  • Partner with HR, TA, IT, and COE leaders to gather business requirements, guide design decisions, and implement system functionality aligned to best practices.
  • Serve as the senior escalation point for Recruiting and Talent system issues, providing advanced troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
  • Support Workday updates, regression testing, feature adoption, and release planning.
  • Create and maintain documentation, training materials, and process guides to strengthen user adoption and operational consistency.
  • Collaborate with integration partners to maintain data accuracy between Workday and external recruiting tools, background check vendors, and job boards.
  • Conduct audits and leverage reporting/ dashboards to ensure compliance, data quality, and operational reliability.
  • Continuously monitor Workday Community, release notes, and emerging functionality to drive proactive innovation and system modernization.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • 4–7+ years of Workday HCM experience with deep hands-on expertise in Workday Recruiting (configuration, BPs, security, reporting).
  • Workday Pro or Consultant Certification
  • Proven ownership of end-to-end Recruiting configuration in a medium-to-large enterprise environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of Talent/Performance modules and their relationship to the broader HCM ecosystem.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead Workday solutions from discovery through deployment, including testing strategy and change management.
  • Exceptional analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Functional HR knowledge and understanding of best practices when it comes to employee transactions, events and lifecycle
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple parallel tasks concurrently and meet deadlines, balancing conflicting demands

Annual Salary Range: $120,000-$130,000/year, with a generous benefits package that includes paid time off, health, dental, vision, and 401(k) savings plan with match.
