Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
We’re looking for a Staff Accountant III to support accurate financial reporting and efficient day-to-day accounting operations. In this role, you’ll handle advanced general ledger work, account and bank reconciliations, journal entries, financial reporting support, and month-end and year-end close activities. The ideal candidate brings strong general ledger experience, excellent attention to detail, advanced Excel skills, and the ability to analyze discrepancies and resolve issues independently.
This role will be on-site at our Elmhurst location.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Assist the CFO and Controller in ensuring all accounts are current, accurate, and properly reconciled
- Participate in the month-end and year-end close process, including preparation and review of journal entries and supporting schedules
- Prepare and maintain prepaid expense schedules and related amortization entries
- Prepare and reconcile commission calculations and supporting documentation prior to payroll processing, while working closely with the Sales department to review discrepancies, validate adjustments, and ensure accuracy
- Reconcile complex general ledger accounts and investigate variances as needed
- Compile information and prepare financial reports as requested
- Prepare various daily/monthly/annual journal entries and general ledger schedules
- Assist with annual review/audit requests and preparation of supporting documentation
- Crosstrain and provide support within AR, AP, Truck Billing, and General Accounting functions as needed
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and increased efficiency within accounting functions
- Provide guidance and support to less experienced accounting staff as needed
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned
Education and/or required experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting required
- Minimum of 3–5 years of accounting or general ledger experience required
- Strong understanding of month-end close and account reconciliation processes
- Experience preparing journal entries and maintaining supporting schedules
- Microsoft Office proficiency required, with strong Excel skills preferred
- Ability to analyze data, investigate discrepancies, and resolve issues independently
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Compensation: $70,000-$80,000. Salary will be determined based on experience, competencies, certifications and education.
