The Staff Software Engineer, Web is the technical owner for assigned areas of Chamberlain Group’s myQ web platform - a cloud-connected ecosystem that delivers away-from-home access control, notifications, access history, and scheduled device commands for residential and commercial customers. This role leads the design, development, and maintenance of front-end and middleware solutions that power the myQ platform, serving as the primary engineering point of contact for cross-functional partners. The Staff Engineer drives technical quality and platform reliability within the assigned scope, translates business and product requirements into thoughtful technical designs, and advances team engineering capability through mentorship and technical leadership.
Job Responsibilities:
- Own the technical design and delivery for assigned myQ web platform areas, serving as the primary scrum team representative and engineering point of contact for Product Ownership, Front End, Middleware, DevOps, and Firmware teams.
- Lead technical assessment, scoping, and design of changes to the codebase for new business requirements, product enhancements, and platform improvements, collaborating with architects to produce scalable, well-structured solutions.
- Define and maintain domain-specific expertise in key myQ platform features, frameworks, and components, serving as the technical authority within assigned scope.
- Lead offshore development teams in designing features and managing technical debt burn-down within assigned platform areas.
- Drive technical discussions across community of practice sessions, design reviews, and pull request forums, setting engineering standards and influencing technical direction.
- Own requirements traceability from definition to implementation, collaborating with UI and UX teams to ensure front-end development aligns with product and user experience intent.
- Partner with domain experts across Infrastructure, Database, and Middleware to design and deliver cross-functional platform features and enhancements.
- Establish and uphold coding standards and front-end engineering best practices, ensuring a high-quality, reusable, and maintainable codebase.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to engineers, growing software engineering capability and elevating technical quality across the development team.
- Comply with security requirements established by the Information Security team, including ISO 27001 policies and ISMS documentation
- Comply with health and safety guidelines and rules; managers should also ensure compliance across their teams.
- Protect Chamberlain Group’s reputation by keeping information confidential.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reading professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
- Contribute to the team effort by accomplishing related results and participating on projects as needed.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 7+ years of experience developing web applications, with a focus on owning technical design and delivery for front-end platform features or products.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments, designing and consuming RESTful services and APIs, and managing source control using Git or similar systems.
- Experience leading or coordinating offshore development teams on feature delivery and technical debt management.
- Proficiency in modern web technologies, including JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, CSS, and component-based frameworks such as Angular
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Deep expertise in UI design patterns such as MVC and MVVM, and strong understanding of web application architecture and client-side performance considerations.
- Ability to independently own technical decisions for assigned platform areas and communicate trade-offs and recommendations clearly to cross-functional stakeholders.
- Ability to lead and mentor engineers on projects of moderate to high complexity, and effectively interface with Product Owners and Scrum Masters for backlog and issue management.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify weaknesses in existing software and define improvement plans.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to work effectively across engineering, product, and quality organizations.
Preferred Job Requirements:
- Formal web development training, certifications, or relevant bootcamp experience
- Experience improving development processes and engineering best practices
- Ability to manage multiple initiatives in a fast-paced environment
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Deeper hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated quality practices
- Technical roadmap planning and execution
