The Strategic Account Executive position directly supports the Broker(s) during the after-sales phase of the business; then once the account is acquired, assumes complete responsibility of maintaining an extremely positive relationship with our clients. These positions may work remotely or in our Birmingham, AL headquarters, and requires up to 50% travel.

Essential Job Responsibilities Include:

  • Serve as the primary relationship owner and trusted advisor for strategic client accounts, ensuring high levels of client satisfaction, retention, and growth
  • Develop a deep understanding of client business objectives, needs, and industry trends to deliver tailored, value-driven solutions
  • Lead overall account strategy and act as the central point of coordination (“quarterback”) across internal teams and external partners
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and brokers, including executive-level stakeholders, through proactive communication and consultative engagement
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with teams such as sales, underwriting, clinical, operations, product, and finance to deliver integrated solutions
  • Provide strategic consulting, including RFP development, vendor evaluation, analysis, and delivery of client recommendations
  • Lead client renewals, including negotiation of pricing, contract terms, performance guarantees, and statements of work
  • Identify and drive revenue growth through upselling, cross-selling, and expansion of services within existing accounts
  • Deliver regular client reporting (quarterly/annual) on performance, financial results, utilization trends, and cost-saving opportunities
  • Monitor account performance, including claims experience, utilization, and service delivery, ensuring commitments and SLAs are met
  • Resolve complex client and vendor issues, ensuring timely and effective outcomes
  • Manage and strengthen relationships with carriers, vendors, and external partners
  • Contribute to revenue and profitability goals through strategic account planning and execution
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date account information, opportunity tracking, and planning within CRM systems
  • Influence internal stakeholders to enhance service delivery, innovation, and overall client value
  • Develop and present value stories and strategic insights to clients, including executive-level presentations
  • Mentor and support other team members, sharing knowledge and best practices
  • Contribute to internal process improvements, strategic planning, and policy development
  • Stay informed on industry developments, regulatory changes, and emerging solutions
  • Ensure alignment between client expectations and organizational capabilities to drive long-term partnership success
  • Partners closely with the Account Manager (AM) to deliver outstanding service by working together to achieve client goals

Required Skills / Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 5+ years related industry experience and/or training.
  • 3 years' account management experience with a PBM or 3 years' client advisory role within the PBM marketplace.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Thorough knowledge of Employee Benefits insurance. 
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret industry policies and contract documents.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills. 
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong organization skills with the ability to prioritize in a dynamic environment.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently with limited supervision or within a group or team.
  • Stellar communication skills.
  • Proven success delivering on requirements described in the job description.

Based on relevant market data and other factors, the anticipated hiring range for this role is $96,000 to $125,000 annually. Final compensation rates will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, and internal equity considerations. This role is also short-term incentive eligible. Incentive amounts will vary by individual and business goals.
