Technical Event Producer

About the Role

Morningstar is seeking a Technical Event Producer / AV Event Technician to support high-impact executive, corporate, hybrid, webinar, and live-streamed events. In this onsite Chicago role, you will help deliver polished event experiences by operating and supporting advanced production, broadcast, conferencing, audio, video, lighting, streaming, and room-control systems.

What You’ll Do

You will serve as a primary technical partner for events in Morningstar’s Auditorium/Event Space, control rooms, meeting rooms, corporate offices, and external venues. You will work closely with event owners, communications partners, technology teams, and vendors to plan, rehearse, execute, troubleshoot, and continuously improve event production.

This role is ideal for a hands-on production professional who brings strong technical judgment, calm live-event execution, and a service-oriented approach when supporting presenters, executives, and event teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Own technical delivery from intake and event design through rehearsal, live execution, recording, debrief, and media handoff. 

• Operate advanced Auditorium, control room, audio, video, projection, camera, lighting, teleprompting, streaming, accessibility, and room-control systems. 

• Support events across corporate offices and external venues, including temporary production environments and programs with remote participants across time zones. 

• Maintain room readiness, system documentation, signal-flow knowledge, equipment inventory, standard operating procedures, backup plans, and escalation paths. 

• Partner with event owners, Corporate Communications, Infrastructure, AV Engineering, venue teams, and external vendors to deliver seamless event experiences. 

• Produce in-person, virtual, hybrid, webinar, and live-streamed events using Microsoft Teams, vMix, Zoom, and related production platforms. 

• Act as producer, show caller, or technical director, including cueing speakers, playback, cameras, lighting, audio, projection, teleprompter content, and transitions. 

• Create production plans, run-of-show documents, cue sheets, presenter instructions, staffing plans, schedules, and contingency plans. 

• Lead technical checks, speaker coaching, rehearsals, dry runs, and system validation before live events. 

• Monitor platform health and participant experience during live events; manage incidents, communicate workarounds, and escalate issues as needed. 

• Coordinate crews, vendors, staging, load-in, setup, testing, rehearsal, live operation, teardown, and rental returns. 

• Perform preventive checks, troubleshoot faults, document workarounds, and support controlled power and maintenance activities. 

• Test failover paths, maintain operating guides and system diagrams, support system upgrades, and serve as a liaison to AV integrators during warranty and service periods. 

What We’re Looking For 

• Minimum 5 years of experience producing technical elements for corporate events, meetings, remote productions, webinars, and live streams. 

• Demonstrated ownership of AV event production from requirements and rehearsal through live execution and post-event wrap-up. 

• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Teams and Zoom event delivery, plus PTZ cameras, audio mixers, production switchers, lighting, wireless microphones, encoders, and projection. 

• Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking, AV-over-IP, Dante and NDI workflows, signal flow, streaming protocols, codecs, and media formats. 

• Ability to read technical drawings and schematics, lead crews, work independently, prioritize under pressure, and troubleshoot during live production. 

• Strong written and verbal communication, production documentation, stakeholder service, recordkeeping, and reporting skills. 

• Flexible availability for early starts, late finishes, occasional weekends, out-of-hours maintenance, travel, and cross-time-zone support. 

Technical Experience 

• Event platforms: Microsoft Teams Town Halls, Webinars, and Meetings; Zoom Webinars and Meetings; and vMix video production software. 

• Video and production systems: Ross Ultrix routing, Ross TouchDrive production switching, openGear-based signal processing, 12G-SDI routing, NDI workflows, PTZ cameras, projection, confidence monitors, and repeater displays. 

• Audio, lighting, and control: Q-SYS DSP and control systems, Yamaha digital audio mixing and routing, Shure wireless microphone systems, live sound reinforcement, Dante audio over IP, ETC/Chauvet lighting, DMX lighting, and assisted listening equipment. 

• Production documentation and workflows: show flows, cue sheets, run-of-show documents, teleprompter workflows, Bitfocus Companion, RTMP streaming, and common video, audio, and media formats. 

Note: Experience with comparable broadcast production switchers, routers, digital consoles, DSP platforms, event platforms, and AV systems will be considered.
