Technical Sales Representative – Western Michigan

Turn your composites expertise into a customer-facing technical sales career with Composites One.

If you have experience working with composite materials, manufacturing processes, or customers in the composites industry, this is an opportunity to put that knowledge to work in a broader, customer-focused role.

As a Technical Sales Representative with Composites One, you'll partner with manufacturers throughout Western Michigan to help solve technical challenges, identify the right material solutions, and support their business and manufacturing needs. You'll represent a broad portfolio of composite materials and work alongside leading suppliers, giving you exposure to a wide range of products, processes, applications, and end markets.

This is a performance-driven sales role offering a competitive base salary plus quarterly commission, along with a company vehicle and phone.

Position Overview

As a Technical Sales Representative, you will manage and grow customer relationships throughout an established Western Michigan territory. You'll work closely with existing customers while identifying opportunities to expand business and develop new accounts.

More than simply selling products, you'll serve as a technical resource and problem-solving partner to customers—learning their manufacturing processes, understanding their challenges, and connecting them with materials and solutions that can improve performance.

This position is ideal for someone with a background in composites, technical sales, applications engineering, manufacturing, or materials who enjoys working directly with customers and wants to combine technical knowledge with relationship building and business development.

Territory: Western Michigan
Preferred locations: Grand Rapids, Holland, Grand Haven, Lansing, Kalamazoo, Muskegon, or surrounding communities.

What You'll Do

  • Serve as a technical resource to customers, helping identify materials and solutions based on their applications, processes, and business needs.
  • Grow existing accounts while identifying and developing new business opportunities.
  • Partner with customers and suppliers on product selection, technical challenges, new applications, and process improvement opportunities.
  • Introduce customers to new materials, technologies, and solutions available through Composites One and our supplier partners.
  • Identify opportunities to convert competitive business and expand product usage within existing accounts.
  • Manage territory sales, gross profit, customer satisfaction, and overall account development.
  • Collaborate closely with Composites One technical, sales, customer service, operations, and supplier teams.

What We're Looking For

We're especially interested in candidates who understand composite materials, manufacturing environments, and/or technical industrial products.

Relevant backgrounds may include:

  • Composite materials or composite manufacturing
  • Fiberglass and carbon fiber
  • Resins, gel coats, adhesives, reinforcements, core materials, prepregs, or related products
  • Open molding, vacuum infusion, RTM, compression molding, prepreg/autoclave, or other composite manufacturing processes
  • Technical sales or account management
  • Applications or process engineering
  • Technical service or customer-facing engineering
  • Industrial distribution or materials sales

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in composites, industrial manufacturing, technical sales, applications engineering, or a related technical environment.
  • Strong technical aptitude and curiosity with the ability to understand customers' manufacturing processes and applications.
  • Ability to build strong, long-term customer relationships.
  • Commercial mindset with an interest in identifying opportunities and growing business.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to regularly travel throughout the Western Michigan territory.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience with composite materials, processes, or applications.
  • Existing knowledge of the composites industry and its manufacturers, suppliers, or end markets.
  • Bachelor's degree in Composite, Chemical, Mechanical, Materials Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with CRM platforms such as Salesforce/Sales Cloud or SAP.

Location & Travel

  • This is a primarily remote, field-based position supporting customers throughout Western Michigan. Regular local and regional customer travel is expected, with occasional overnight travel based on customer and business needs.
  • Candidates should reside within or near the territory, preferably in the Grand Rapids, Holland, Grand Haven, Lansing, Kalamazoo, Muskegon, or surrounding Western Michigan areas.

Pre-Employment Requirement:

  • Employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of a drug screen and background check. This requirement is especially critical for safety-sensitive roles.
