The Operations Leader for the North Central and South Region Technology Service requires a people oriented professional with extensive engineering and project management know-how and a track record of results. The Operations Leader will work closely with the Practice Leader to maintain the vision and strategy of the Business Unit and support team development. The Operations Leader reports to the Specialty Services Business Center (BCSS) Operations Leader (BCOL) and will their talent and project experience to manage day-to-day operations, develop talent, and manage the recruiting and hiring process for the team. The Operations Leader will also work with other Operations Leaders, Practice Leaders, market Sector Leaders, Team Leaders and Project Managers to ensure continuity and project delivery.
Candidate based in Chicago or willing to relocate to Chicago is required.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Coordinates with the Technology National Discipline Leader on deliverable standardization.
- Identify, maintain and make corrections to all staffing within the Business Unit as required to achieve business plan, effectively deliver projects, maintain client relationships, and position the Business Unit to accomplish and achieve long term goals.
- Review and monitor project and Business Unit level financial performance on a constant basis using financial data to improve profitability. Prepare and oversee project operational budgets. Plan effective strategies for the successful execution of projects.
- Focuses on employee engagement.
- Tracks revenue, utilization and other defined KPI targets
- Coordinate and monitor the work of staff. Monitor performance and implement improvements. Ensure quality of deliverables in accordance with Stantec QA/QC standards. Identify, maintain, and make corrections to any QA/QC issues and participate in meetings where E&O claims have been identified. Manage quality and quantity of employee productivity. Provide technical support where necessary.
- Participate in preparation, review and approve RFPs response content and pricing with the respective studio leader, project manager, or Practice Leader as needed.
- Review and approve contract requirements, engage company legal counsel when required to mitigate potential risk.
- Maintain contractual, business, and financial related records for the Business unit.
- Review monthly the performance of team leaders. Develops understanding of Stantec’s accounting and project management systems.
- Participate in resource planning meetings and coordinate with other ODs for the sharing of manpower resources when necessary.
- Conduct and manage annual performance review of Business Unit staff.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- The ability to work in tandem with the Technology Practice Leader is a must.
- Possesses strong written and presentation skills to convey technical and business concepts to varied audiences and decision makers articulates ideas and solutions clearly when dealing with complex and uncertain situations.
- Experience in managing engineering, business operations and finances.
- Strong project management and financial background.
- Strong client and employee interfacing capabilities.
- Maintains strong critical/analytical thinking skills; able to create, convey and deploy engineering and business strategies and problem solve.
- Possesses knowledge of ICT, Security, Audio Visual design principles and best practices and general understanding of other disciplines as they relate to Technology Design.
- Displays effective organization and time management skills with projects, reports and other duties effectively manages multiple priorities and is punctual and dependable.
Education and Experience
- Accredited BS or master’s degree required; engineering degrees are preferred.
- Relevant Licensure or professional certification based on expertise required.
- 15+ years Technology consulting specifying engineering experience with knowledge and leadership managing design projects and teams.
