Forbes is seeking an Editor to join our newsroom’s audience team for a temporary assignment, helping to curate, elevate, and spark ideas for our journalism. The editor will play a key role in expanding our social media presence and driving engagement. The ideal candidate should be deeply familiar with most social platforms, understand best practices on each, and remain flexible amid the ever-changing social landscape. They should be comfortable writing and testing headlines, photos, and copy for posts, have a sharp understanding of the news cycle, and be able to measure performance with help from the analytics team. The role will seek to understand what performs well, why, and how that should shape our thinking. This role will report into the Assistant Managing Editor, News & Audience.

Responsibilities:

  • Write accurate, clear and lively editorial emails, including subject lines
  • Build email alerts for news stories
  • Craft social posts for platforms including LinkedIn and Instagram
  • Track performance of emails and posts and adjust strategies accordingly
  • Identify trends and opportunities on social platforms and communicate effectively with editors
  • Liaise with other audience, social and editorial teams 

The ideal candidate:

  • 1-3 years experience in a digital newsroom — experience working on tight deadlines, and working with social media platforms, metrics, and/or social copy a plus
  • Experience writing headlines and the ability to write sharp, succinct copy 
  • Experience with Canva or other design programs a plus. 
  • Sharp news judgment and an understanding of what readers want
  • Comfort analyzing metrics across multiple platforms and communicating results and insights back to team members
  • Experience—or strong interest—in business journalism
  • Experience and interest in curation/distribution — working with various platforms and products to get our journalism out to the world
  • Ability to identify, write and edit compelling subject lines, social copy, and emails to drive strong engagement
  • Willing to use data to guide content decisions and methodical in testing ideas in order to achieve desired results
  • Comfortable working in a fast paced and deadline-driven organization
  • Highly adaptable and quick to learn processes
  • Should be news obsessive with a passion for thinking quickly and creatively to identify and pursue opportunities.

The hourly rate for this role is $28.85 - $28.85
