GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision of the Community Employment Case Manager the Training Specialist trains persons served in a specified vocational area at a work site as specified in the Individual Vocational Plan (IVP)/Individual Program Plan (IPP).

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides basic training/job coaching to persons served at their work site following the recommendations of the interdisciplinary team (IDT) and/or the employer while serving as a role model and encouraging independence and communication skills; observes all local, state, and federal laws, as well as all agency policies and procedures.  This responsibility requires the use of a phone and vehicle.
  • Escorts/accompanies persons served to and from various training/residential settings including community-based training/employment sites, community resources, and community integration events in a safe and timely manner.

  • Supervises and trains persons served while promoting work skills and (re)habilitation efforts and while meeting quantity and quality goals and safety criteria for the production area, janitorial areas, and other work training areas as required or requested. Creates, maintains and communicates schedule for persons served in work training throughout the building.

  • Serves as an advocate for the person as needed while assisting the person served to become integrated at/into the work site.

  • Ensures cleanliness and organization of kitchen; coordinates scheduling of events and departments utilization of the kitchen.

  • Documents data/information pertaining to each person's IVP/IPP in electronic record.  Obtains this information through inter-action with and observation of the person.  Documents significant events/occurrence utilizing chronological notes and Behavioral and/or Accident/Incident Reports.  Informs supervisor in a timely manner of unusual incidents.

  • Completes daily count/time sheets and submits them to supervisor on a daily basis.

  • Provides input to the Community Employment Case Manager to aid in the development of a complete task analysis of each person’s job duties.

  • Informs the Community Employment Case Manager of problems and/or occurrences that may indicate the need for job modification, accommodation and/or assistive technology.

  • Monthly re-evaluates objectives, training methods and provides data/information to the primary case manager for inclusion in monthly reviews and IPP according to established time frames.

Qualifications

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • One years experience working directly with persons with developmental disabilities, mental illness and/or other disabilities, preferred.
  • Must have knowledge of developmental disabilities, mental illness, active treatment, principles of normalization and least restrictive environment, choice, integration, and/or demonstrate the willingness to learn.
  • Must be able to adapt to frequent change and work independently without a direct supervisor on-site.
  • Must be able to counsel, advise, teach, resolve conflicts, and direct staff and families.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and diplomatically in both oral and written form and be able to meet and work with the public.
  • Must have reliable transportation to conduct agency business and/or to transport individuals served as needed; must maintain a valid Illinois Drivers License and a good Motor Vehicle Record; and must maintain personal auto insurance with minimum coverage of Bodily Injury-Liability per Person of $100,000 and Liability per Accident of $300,000, Property Liability of $100,000; Medical payments of $5,000; and Uninsured/Underinsured Person of $100,000 and Accident of $300,000.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours; split shifts, evenings and weekends.
  • Must have adequate use of 100 basic communication signs and/or the willingness to learn.
  • Must be able to adapt to frequent change and performs adequately when confronted with critical or unexpected issues; make sound clinical judgments based on sound reasoning in daily and emergency situations.
  • Must be able to meet the following physical capabilities:
    • Lift and carry 50 to 85 pounds; able to assist in lifting and transferring an individual who is non-ambulatory from sitting to standing, standing to lying, and back to sitting from all positions.
    • Full range of mobility: push, pull, turn, stoop, kneel, reach, and bend.
    • Dependable vision, having visual acuity far and near and normal field of vision.
    • Remain on feet for a minimum of two hours at a time.
    • Adequate hearing.
  • Must be able to complete MRI training requirements.
  • Must have or be able to obtain first-aid and CPR certification within 60 days of employment and maintain certification throughout employment.
  • Must be able to maintain payroll, financial, personnel, and information related to persons served as confidential and in accordance with the Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Confidentiality Act and the Policies and Procedures of Macon Resources, Inc.
  • Must be able to adhere to the Safety Policies and Procedures of Macon Resources, Inc.
  • Must have means of notifying supervisor if unable to report to work.
