Serena Williams is a mother, a 23-time Grand Slam tennis singles title holder and now an advisor to a Chicago startup.

The Mom Project just announced it added Williams as a strategic advisor to the company.

The Mom Project is a company working to connect mothers to job opportunities. Too often, new mothers have to choose between their children and their careers. So The Mom Project created an online destination for parents to find employers and jobs that allow them to balance their work and their family life.

This is a cause that Williams is passionate about.

“I’m calling on CEOs, Heads of People and Business Leaders big and small. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a team of 1 or 100,000; if you’re hiring, are you considering hiring moms? Together, we can influence how work gets done and build a better workplace for the future,” she said in a statement.

The Mom Project serves over 200,000 professionals. Since it began in 2016, the company has connected these individuals to over $50 million worth of economic opportunity and partnered with companies like Facebook, Nike, Uber, Apple and Twitter to help them meet the needs of working moms.

In a statement, Allison Robinson, the startup’s CEO and founder, called Williams “the embodiment of The Mom Project’s mission and what we aspire to.”

“Serena is a role model to so many moms, reminding us that when we recognize our own strength — we are unstoppable,” Robinson continued. “By joining forces, we will be able to accelerate change for moms in America and champion the support needed in the workplace and through public policy to ensure they can thrive.”
