Chicago is known as the birthplace of the skyscraper, and soon the city will have a new one lining the Chicago River. This tower will belong to software conglomerate Salesforce.
The Chicago Salesforce Tower was announced back in 2018. In addition to its new building, Salesforce announced plans to bring 1,000 new jobs to the Windy City, which will serve as the company’s regional headquarters.
This week, Salesforce celebrated the “topping off” of the new building, signifying that it is near completion. The company said in a statement that it plans to welcome employees to the new space in 2023.
Standing at 57 stories, the new office is located along the Chicago River at 333 W. Wolf Point Plaza and is Salesforce’s eighth global tower. The company’s headquarters remains in San Fransisco.
“We’re excited to start welcoming our employees to Salesforce Tower Chicago in the spring of 2023. We know it will serve as a space where everyone — our employees, customers, partners, Trailblazers and the community — can come together to collaborate, innovate, learn, give back and succeed,” the company said in a statement.
In addition to housing the company’s Chicago talent, the Salesforce tower will also dedicate space to community and nonprofit events on the ‘Ohana Floors. In other Salesforce towers, the ‘Ohana Floors are open to organizations that focus on humanitarian, social, education or environmental causes to host events and work on a per request basis.
The new building will also feature several environmental initiatives such as carpets made with recycled nylon from recovered fishing nets. The all-electric building won’t use on-site fossil fuels either, allowing the energy to be matched by the company’s renewable energy commitment. Currently, the building is on track to achieve the LEED v4 Gold and Zero Carbon certifications.
According to a company statement, Salesforce has already filled the 1,000 local jobs it promised back in 2018. The tech company is still hiring with 55 openings in Chicago ranging from sales and product positions to operations, marketing and engineering.
