Tech on the move: 3 Chicagoland companies announce new offices

It’s been a big week for some expanding Chicagoland tech companies. There have been several announcements of future moves into new office spaces in order to accommodate increasing headcount. To help keep things straight, here are some of tech growing companies on the move.

Crain’s is reporting that Chicago-based mobile payment processor Braintree is expanding its presence in an increasingly techie Merchandise Mart. The company has leased additional office space — some 20,000 square feet — to expand its overall space by a one-third its current size come April.

Braintree’s physical growth isn’t exactly surprising, given their headline-writing successes over the past couple of years (including high-profile transactions as both acquirer and the acquired). According to Crain’s, Braintree currently employs a team of about 350.

According to another report from Crain’s, has a new West Loop HQ on the horizon — the 158,000 square-foot-office at 300 S. Riverside Plaza. Although the lease has yet to be finalized, the 14-year agreement would see the company migrate out of their current, 140,000 square-foot-office in July of 2017.

“As we accelerate our growth and seek to attract and retain the very best talent in the country, we are investigating new facilities for,” Alex Vetter, CEO, said in a statement. “The intended move will allow us to provide our world-class talent with a top-of-the-line working environment reflective of innovation and creativity.”

According to Crain’s, employs about 800 people locally and 1,300 in total, but a spokesperson declined to comment how many new workers the upgraded office could house.

According to the Chicago Tribune, a Carpentersville-based tech company is also on the move downtown — not to downtown Chicago, but downtown Elgin. Anguleris Technologies, CEO Benjamin Glunz told the Tribune the move corresponds to a growth spurt in terms of team size and product offerings. As it stands, the company has a team of 26, though they don’t all work out of their Chicagoland office.

Launched in 2010, Anguleris uses virtual imaging solutions to provide manufacturers with Building Information Modeling so that building planners have a clearer picture of how specific items might look in a finished space.
