The position is part of the Spectrum actuarial team which provides support for $3.0B of Commercial Multi-Peril business for The Hartford’s Small Business segment. Our Spectrum BOP product is proprietary to The Hartford and is regarded as the market leader in the industry. Additionally, the team supports the growth and development of Small Business’ Multi-Peril E&S offering. As we operate in both a fluid and competitive industry, we continuously innovate the line and create product / coverage improvements that meet the ever-changing needs of our customers and to remain ahead of our competitors.

Opportunities:

  • Develop internal modeled rate level indications to inform product rate strategy.

  • Continuously evolve the Spectrum class plan through improvements to pricing segmentation via additional granularity and new variable introduction.

  • Advance our analytic and monitoring capabilities for the E&S product offering.

  • Think creatively to enhance or automate long-standing actuarial methodology using more contemporary techniques.

  • Help develop countrywide rate strategy for the various Spectrum products.

  • Engage in continuous learning and professional development opportunities to stay updated with industry trends and best practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the update of Spectrum and E&S Loss Development Factors, Trend Selections, and Pricing Assumptions to feed into modeled indications.

  • Support the rollout of the latest Spectrum class plan to all states and create updated analysis for pricing factors such as deductibles & ILF’s.

  • Update slides for monthly presentations to leadership around New Business results & profitability.

  • Partner with the Small Business Territory Actuarial Team to support ad hoc requests from business partners in Underwriting & Product and the rollout of our latest class plan.

  • Utilize programming languages such as SQL, R, and Python to enhance analytical capabilities.

  • Lead and mentor junior team members to foster a collaborative and innovative work environment.

Experience & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.

  • 6-7 actuarial exams, 4+ years of experience

  • Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to effectively resolve complex issues.

  • Strong Excel skills required. Knowledge of SQL, VBA, R, Python, SAS or similar code languages a plus.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Attention to detail with strong time and project management skills.

  • Driven, intellectually curious, passionate, resourceful and creative.

  • Proactive individual, who challenges existing processes, can influence others and drive a process to a conclusion while meeting critical deadlines

This role can have a Hybrid work schedule out of Hartford, Chicago, Charlotte offices. Candidates will have the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$113,200 - $169,800
