Job Description:

The AEM Technical Architect will lead the design and delivery of enterprise Adobe Experience Manager implementations. This role partners with clients and cross-functional teams to create scalable, secure solutions, provide technical direction, and drive successful project execution. The position combines solution architecture, delivery leadership, and hands-on technical expertise. It is not a full-time development role, but the Architect must be able to troubleshoot complex issues, review implementation approaches, and contribute directly when needed.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end AEM solution design and provide architectural direction throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Partner with client stakeholders, business analysts, QA, lead developers, developers, DevOps teams, and third-party vendors to clarify requirements and align the implementation approach.

  • Create and maintain architecture diagrams, technical solution designs, integration designs, and other project-level documentation.

  • Design scalable and secure integrations between AEM and external platforms such as commerce, CRM, ERP, analytics, and marketing systems.

  • Translate business and technical requirements into componentized AEM solutions, implementation patterns, and actionable direction for delivery teams.

  • Guide lead developers and developers, review technical approaches and code, and help resolve complex delivery blockers.

  • Assess wireframes and design mockups for feasibility, component reuse, responsive behavior, cross-browser compatibility, and accessibility.

  • Design content workflows for creation, review, approval, and publishing within AEM, applying project-level governance and quality standards.

  • Collaborate with DevOps teams on CI/CD pipelines, automated deployments, release readiness, and change-management requirements.

  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and monitor technical milestones, risks, dependencies, and delivery progress.

  • Communicate complex technical recommendations clearly to technical and non-technical audiences and influence alignment around the proposed solution.

  • Provide technical effort estimates and planning input for AEM engagements.

  • Mentor team members and share AEM architecture and implementation best practices.

  • Adapt to new clients, technologies, and project needs as engagements evolve.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience developing and delivering solutions with AEM Sites and AEM Assets.

  • 3+ years of experience architecting enterprise-grade CMS or AEM implementations.

  • Experience with AEM as a Cloud Service and/or Adobe Managed Services; exposure to on-premises AEM environments is valuable.

  • Strong experience with Java, HTTP, REST APIs, custom AEM components, templates, workflows, and integrations.

  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and a modern front-end framework such as React or Vue.

  • Demonstrated experience leading complex implementations involving multiple teams, technologies, or workstreams.

  • Ability to create clear architecture diagrams and maintainable technical documentation.

  • Hands-on ability to troubleshoot implementation issues, assess code and design decisions, and unblock delivery teams.

  • Strong client-facing communication, presentation, collaboration, organization, and independent problem-solving skills.

  • Experience working in Agile delivery environments and with source control, issue tracking, and documentation tools such as GitHub or Bitbucket, Jira, and Confluence.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience integrating AEM with Adobe Commerce, Salesforce Commerce, or another enterprise commerce platform.

  • Exposure to Adobe Analytics, Adobe Target, Adobe Campaign, or other Adobe Experience Cloud products.

  • Experience supporting technical discovery, solution presentations, or pre-sales activities.

  • Adobe AEM certification.

  • Experience mentoring developers or providing career guidance.

What Success Looks Like

  • Clients and internal teams are aligned on a clear, feasible AEM solution direction.

  • Architecture and technical decisions are documented, understood, and translated into executable delivery plans.

  • Complex risks and blockers are surfaced early and resolved with sound technical judgment.

  • Delivery teams receive practical guidance that supports quality, maintainability, scalability, and timely execution.

  • The Architect can move between client conversations, technical design, and hands-on problem solving as project needs change.
