JOB SUMMARY: The After School Rec (ASR) Site Coordinator is responsible for the daily operation and onsite leadership at an assigned After School Rec location. This role ensures program quality, promotes a safe and positive environment for participants (Grades K–4), and provides guidance and oversight to ASR Counselors. The Site Coordinator leads activities as needed, manages materials and supplies, and serves as the main point of contact for families and staff during programming hours. This is a PT 2 position, with the benefits listed below
SUPERVISORY DUTIES:

Supervise ASR Counselors and ensure a safe, structured environment for all participants (Grades K–4)

Provide leadership, guidance, and support to onsite staff

Serve as the on-site point person in emergencies; ensure procedures are followed correctly
-
Support new counselor onboarding and model best practices for youth interaction
-
Assist with new staff onboarding and training, and help implement program policies and procedures
-
Coordinate staff schedules and use timekeeping software to manage timecards
-
Communicate with Park District departments, including recreation staff, HR, and transportation (e.g., bus drivers)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
-
Plan and assist in leading engaging, age-appropriate program activities
-
Oversee participant check-in/out, daily schedule, snack distribution, and transitions between activities

Communicate effectively with parents during pick-up and as needed throughout the program
-
Build positive relationships with participants, parents/guardians, and coworkers
-
Maintain strong, respectful relationships with D39 school staff and care for school facilities used during programming
-
Communicate site updates, participant issues, and staff concerns to the Recreation Coordinator and the School Age Supervisor
-
Support the Park District’s inclusion partnership with NSSRA to ensure all participants have a successful experience
-
Maintain a clean, organized site and ensure all materials and supplies are stocked
-
Track and maintain participant health and safety information (e.g., allergies, medications) using ePACT software
-
Monitor and secure assigned program technology (cell phone, iPad, key card, etc.)
-
Serve as the on-site emergency contact; respond to and document incidents appropriately
-
Support the agency's risk management protocols and safety initiatives
-
Promptly report any safety hazards, incidents, or injuries to the appropriate staff
-
Support safety protocols and attend required training sessions
-
Actively uphold and contribute to the Wilmette Park District Comprehensive and Strategic Plan, including the Guiding Principles and Strategic Priorities.

Actively contribute to the Park District's sustainability goals.
SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES:
-
Actively support the safety program that will effectively control and reduce accidents.

Obey the safety rules, regulations and procedures established by the Wilmette Park District safety program that is pertinent to the activities conducted by the department.

Become familiar with and follow safety procedures of the Wilmette Park District, including, but not limited to, fire, severe weather, and evacuation procedures.

Promptly report all unsafe actions, practices or conditions observed to the immediate supervisor, or Human Resources/Risk Management division
-
Attend and participate in required safety training.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Must be at least 18 years old by the position start date

Prior experience working with children in a recreational or educational setting

Leadership experience or demonstrated initiative in a team setting is strongly preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.

Frequent standing and walking; occasional sitting, climbing, bending, and kneeling

Exposure to cleaning products and indoor/outdoor environments

Work is active and may involve moderate to high noise levels
CERTIFICATIONS:
-
Must possess CPR/First Aid certificates within three months of hiring, provided by the Park District
-
Complete annual District trainings, including, but not limited to, Sexual Harassment Training annually and Mandated Reporter training every three years
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The general work area is indoors, in a smoke-free environment, with controlled temperature and fluorescent lighting. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The outdoor work area depends on the season.
HOURS:
Follows the 2026-2027 D39 School Calendar

Monday–Thursday: 3:00–6:00 PM

Friday: 2:00–6:00 PM

General hours of duty will be approved by the Recreation Supervisor – School Age Programs and the Recreation General Manager
ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES:
This position follows the District 39 school year calendar and does not operate on non-school days. While there may be opportunities to pick up additional hours through special school-day-off programs (such as Rec on the Road or Rec at the Center), working these shifts is not required, and availability is not guaranteed.
