The Application Engineer / Sales Engineer is responsible for supporting customer applications, new design requirements, technical sales opportunities, and cross-functional product execution for hydraulic solutions. This role serves as a technical liaison between customers, sales, product management, engineering, manufacturing, quality, and operations to ensure proposed solutions are technically sound, commercially viable, and aligned with customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Application Design and Technical Execution

  • Execute and manage new application designs and customer-specific requirements.
  • Analyze and interpret customer technical requirements from inquiries, specifications, and application details.
  • Ensure solutions meet technical, quality, and manufacturability expectations.
  • Provide engineering analysis and technical recommendations for equipment applications and customer requirements.

Sales, Customer, and Product Support

  • Provide technical support for sales inquiries, customer questions, equipment applications, and hydraulic system requirements.
  • Develop effective working relationships with customers, distributors, regional sales managers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Support product line strategies and growth initiatives.

Quoting, Vendor, and Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Technically evaluate vendor bids and support quotation activities for hydraulic products and customer applications.
  • Coordinate with Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, Operations, and other departments to confirm quoted products are viable.
  • Assist in preparing technical reports, business correspondence, and application documentation as needed.

Additional Expectations

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Travel 30%–40% of the time, approximately one week per month.
  • Work onsite in Schaumburg, IL.

Requirements

To be considered for the Application Engineer / Sales Engineer role, candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field required; engineering degree preferred.
  • 1–2 years of related experience and/or training required; 5 years of industry experience preferred.
  • Experience with hydraulics or pneumatics required.
  • Experience with database software, MRP systems
  • Experience with schematic and modeling software, project management software, spreadsheets, and word processing software.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, design, and project management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, governmental regulations, written instructions, oral instructions, diagrams, and schedules.

Salary is commensurate with experience, with a range of $95,000–$115,000. HYDAC offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision coverage; paid holidays; PTO; 401(k) with company match; FSA; short-term disability; life insurance; and pet insurance.
