The Crop Division of Great American has been helping generations of farmers take control of their risks since 1915. The D​ivision is also one of a select few private companies authorized by the United States Department of Agriculture Risk Management Agency (USDA RMA) to write MPCI policies. Great American's Crop Division is looking for a Claims Supervisor in Ohio. This individual will work fully remote in the Ohio territory and will be required to travel up to 40%. Our ideal candidate will have generally 3-5 years of supervisor experience and Crop Claims experience.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for coordinating and supervising the day-to-day activities of employees:

    • Supervises employees and provides file guidance.  Assigns and checks work.

    • Investigates and maintains claims:

      • Reviews and determines coverage and/or liability.

      • Secures and analyzes necessary information (i.e., reports, policies, appraisals, releases, statements, reports, or other documents) in the investigation of claims.

    • Works towards the resolution of claims files, and attends arbitrations, mediations, depositions, or trials as necessary.

    • May affect settlements/reserves within prescribed limits and submit recommendations to supervisor on cases exceeding personal authority.

    • Ensures that claims payments are issued in a timely and accurate manner.

    • Ensures that claims handling is conducted in compliance with applicable statues, regulations, and other legal requirements, and that all applicable company procedures and policies are followed.

  • Advises reporting staff on claim files and extends settlement authority as necessary after reviewing files.

  • May establish reserves and make recommendations or reports for Corporate Claims or senior management.

  • Responsible for performance and coaching of staff and has a participatory role in decisions regarding talent selections, development, and performance management.  Provides training to new members of the team.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.

  • Field of Study: Liberal Arts, Business or a related discipline.

  • Experience: Generally, 3 to 5 years of related experience, 0 to 2 years of leadership experience.

  • Scope of Job: Typically manages 2 or more reports.  Responsible for setting the priorities and day-to-day tasks for the team.  May spend portion of time performing the work of those they supervise.  Decisions guided by policies and procedures under limited supervision.

Physical Requirements

  • Requires continuous and prolonged walking and standing.

  • Requires frequent lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling of objects up to 50 lbs.

  • Requires frequent climbing, bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling and crawling.

  • Requires overhead reaching and grabbing.

  • Requires regular and predictable attendance.

  • Requires ability to conduct visual inspections.

  • Requires work outdoors, in inclement weather conditions.

  • Requires frequent travel.

  • May require ability to operate a motor vehicle.

Salary Range:

$75,000.00 -$90,000.00
