About Customer.io

Hi, I’m Matt, VP of Product & Design at Customer.io. I’m looking for a Director, Product Management to join our Product team. Over 7,500 companies—from scrappy startups to global brands—use our platform to send billions of emails, push notifications, in-app messages, and SMS every day. Customer.io powers automated communication that people actually want to receive. We help teams send smarter, more relevant messages using real-time behavioral data.

We’re a product-led company on a mission to help our customers deliver magical communications at scale.

About the Role

As a Director, Product Management, you’ll report to the VP of Product & Design and act as the Directly Responsible Individual (DRI) for core initiatives that expand the reach, usability, and value of our platform. You’ll help move our product organization from reactive delivery toward a more strategic, data-informed, and customer-centered practice — ensuring clarity of direction, consistency in execution, and a strong feedback loop between our customers and our roadmap.

You’ll balance hands-on product strategy with team leadership, supporting PMs in driving measurable business outcomes while shaping a culture of curiosity, accountability, and cross-functional excellence.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead and develop a team of 4+ product managers through mentorship, clear expectations, and growth opportunities.
  • Set product vision and strategy for key areas of our platform, translating customer needs and company goals into actionable roadmaps.
  • Drive clarity and prioritization, helping teams make informed tradeoffs that balance user value, business impact, and technical investment.
  • Collaborate with Design, Engineering, and GTM teams to define and deliver cross-functional initiatives that move core metrics.
  • Establish and evolve product rituals (reviews, retros, planning) to promote consistency, alignment, and focus.
  • Model data-informed decision making, guiding your PMs to leverage qualitative and quantitative insights in every phase of product development.
  • Contribute to org-wide product maturity, helping to define frameworks, standards, and best practices across Customer.io’s growing PM discipline.
  • Foster a culture of trust and empowerment, encouraging curiosity, experimentation, and bias for action.
What We’re Looking For
  • 8+ years of experience in product management, including 3+ years managing or mentoring PMs.
  • Proven track record leading B2B SaaS or MarTech products with strong data, workflow, or messaging components.
  • Demonstrated success driving outcomes through strategy, prioritization, and execution across multiple product areas.
  • Strong communicator with experience leading distributed, async-first teams.
  • Comfortable operating at multiple altitudes — from vision and frameworks to hands-on roadmap execution.
  • Deep empathy for customers paired with analytical rigor to measure and learn from impact.
  • Experience collaborating closely with engineering, design, and go-to-market teams to deliver cohesive, high-quality product experiences.
  • Excited by the opportunity to shape both product outcomes and the product management practice at a company in growth mode.
