job purpose 

The EHS Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, maintaining, and continuously improving fairlife’s Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety (EHS) Management System applications in alignment with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 principles. This role ensures EHS systems effectively support hazard identification, environmental aspect management, risk mitigation, regulatory compliance, performance monitoring, and continual improvement across manufacturing operations. 

The position partners with IT, Operations, Quality, and Corporate EHS to ensure EHS enterprise platforms are secure, scalable, and integrated with business systems, enabling standardized, data-driven decisionmaking and proactive risk management. 

 

responsibilities:  

EHS Management System Support & Governance 

  • Administer EHS enterprise systems that support ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 requirements, including incident reporting, hazard identification, environmental aspects, risk assessments, audits, corrective actions, and compliance obligations. 
  • Maintain standardized, controlled EHS databases and reporting structures to ensure data integrity, traceability, and consistent performance evaluation across all manufacturing locations. 
  • Ensure EHS system configurations support documented information control, record retention, and accessibility requirements. 
  • Investigate opportunities where systems can be consolidated and leveraged more efficiently. 

Risk, Compliance & Operational Control 

  • Design and integrate EHS system workflows that support:  
  • Hazard identification and risk assessment (OH&S) 
  • Identification and evaluation of environmental aspects and impacts 
  • Regulatory and other compliance obligation tracking 
  • Enable operational controls within EHS systems to support injury prevention, environmental protection, and compliance assurance. 
  • Support management of change (MOC) processes through EHS system integrations with manufacturing, maintenance, and quality platforms. 

Integration & Process Design 

  • Develop and maintain integrations between EHS applications and enterprise systems (manufacturing, quality, HR, utilities, and maintenance) to support lifecycle risk management and performance tracking. 
  • Create and maintain SOPs and work instructions governing EHS system use, data governance, automation, and user roles. 

Performance Monitoring & Continual Improvement 

  • Support monitoring, measurement, analysis, and evaluation of EHS performance through dashboards, KPIs, and trend analysis aligned with ISO objectives and targets. 
  • Drive continual improvement initiatives for EHS system functionality, user effectiveness, and scalability to support business growth and evolving risks. 
  • Support internal and external audit readiness by ensuring EHS systems reliably demonstrate implementation and effectiveness of management system controls. 

Training, Awareness & Support 

  • Train site EHS teams, supervisors, and system users to ensure competence in use of EHS platforms and accurate reporting of incidents, hazards, aspects, and corrective actions. 
  • Provide ongoing system support, issue resolution, and root cause analysis for EHS system-related deficiencies. 
  • As needed, provide backup support to the Quality Systems Engineer to ensure alignment between EHS, quality, and food safety management systems. 

 

skills/qualifications required: (5-7 bullets max) 

  • Practical understanding of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management system frameworks, including risk-based thinking and continual improvement.  
  • Experience administering or supporting EHS management software in a manufacturing environment.  
  • Working knowledge of occupational safety and environmental regulatory requirements and how they translate into system controls and reporting.  
  • Ability to identify, document, and escalate system or process gaps that may impact worker safety, environmental compliance, or operational risk.  
  • Experience developing SOPs, controlled documentation, and training materials related to EHS systems.  
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and cross-functional communication skills. 

 

EHS, Food Safety & Management System Responsibilities 

  • Promptly notify supervision of system issues, configuration changes, or process impacts that could affect occupational health, safety, environmental compliance, product quality, or food safety.  
  • Support adherence to operational hygiene and environmental controls within manufacturing areas, including container control policies and production area requirements.  
  • Perform all duties in compliance with Company, Customer, and applicable regulatory requirements, supporting alignment across EHS, quality, and food safety management systems.  
  • Enable system controls that prevent continuation of unsafe work, environmental harm, or processing of nonconforming product until corrective actions are implemented and verified.  
  • Ensure continuity of EHS system responsibilities through documented procedures and qualified backup support when required.
