About the role and what you'll be doing: 

The Expert Database Architect serves as Ensono's highest level of technical authority for database architecture and data platform strategy. This role is responsible for defining enterprise database architecture standards, driving innovation, leading complex transformation engagements, and serving as a trusted advisor to executive stakeholders across Ensono's largest and most strategic client accounts.

Partnering closely with Client Technical Advisors, Solution Architects, Consulting Architects, Product Management, Engineering, and Executive Leadership, the Expert Database Architect develops long-term database strategies that align business objectives with modern data platform capabilities. This includes modernization, cloud adoption, automation, resiliency, security, governance, and emerging database technologies.

The Expert Database Architect is expected to lead large-scale, mission-critical database transformation initiatives and provide strategic guidance across a broad range of technologies and industries. This individual acts as a mentor to architects and engineers while influencing Ensono's database service offerings, technical standards, and future-state roadmaps.

  • Serve as the highest-level technical authority for database architecture within assigned client accounts and strategic initiatives.
  • Lead architecture strategy and roadmap development for enterprise database and data platform environments.
  • Drive large-scale modernization, migration, consolidation, and cloud transformation programs.
  • Establish and maintain database architecture standards, governance models, design frameworks, and best practices.
  • Advise executive leadership teams on database strategy, technology investments, risk management, and transformation planning.
  • Architect highly resilient, secure, scalable, and automated database solutions supporting mission-critical workloads.
  • Partner with product, engineering, consulting, and sales teams to shape and evolve Ensono's database services portfolio.
  • Lead technical due diligence efforts, assessments, and architecture reviews for strategic opportunities.
  • Provide expert guidance on emerging technologies, including:
    • Database automation
    • AI-enabled operations
    • Platform engineering
    • Data modernization
    • Containerized database platforms
    • Cloud-native architectures
  • Support strategic pursuits by developing differentiated database solutions and participating in executive client presentations.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to C-level executives, business leaders, and senior technology stakeholders.
  • Mentor and develop Solution Architects, Database Architects, Consultants, and Engineering teams.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives through innovation, automation, operational excellence, and modernization.
  • Represent Ensono as a subject matter expert through industry events, client workshops, technical publications, and strategic engagements.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in database architecture, engineering, administration, or enterprise data platform leadership.
  • 7+ years designing and leading enterprise-scale database modernization and transformation initiatives.
  • Expert-level knowledge of cloud database services and at least one of the following:
    • Microsoft SQL Server
    • Oracle Database
    • PostgreSQL
    • MySQL
    • MongoDB and NoSQL platforms
    • Cloud-native database services
  • Extensive experience designing highly available, mission-critical database environments supporting large global enterprises.
  • Deep expertise in database architecture, performance optimization, scalability, security, governance, compliance, automation, and disaster recovery.
  • Proven experience leading cloud transformation initiatives involving Azure, AWS, and hybrid architectures.
  • Demonstrated success partnering with executive stakeholders to align technology strategy with business objectives.
  • Experience establishing enterprise architecture standards, governance frameworks, reference architectures, and best practices.
  • Strong understanding of application architectures, infrastructure platforms, networking, security, and DevOps principles.
  • Proven ability to lead complex initiatives involving multiple teams, stakeholders, technologies, and business units.
  • Exceptional communication, consulting, facilitation, and executive presentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced certifications in Azure, AWS, Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Google Cloud, or related technologies.
  • Experience with enterprise data platforms, analytics, data warehousing, and data governance frameworks.
  • Knowledge of AI, machine learning platforms, and modern data architectures.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, OpenShift, and containerized database deployments.
  • Familiarity with FinOps, platform engineering, and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles.
  • Experience influencing product strategy, service development, and technology investment decisions.
  • Demonstrated industry thought leadership through speaking engagements, publications, advisory boards, or technical communities.
  • Consulting or managed services experience supporting large global enterprises.
  • Master's Degree in relative study.

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay scale for this role is $155,000 to $210,000 annually based on a full-time schedule. Please note that placement in the range may vary based on numerous factors including but not limited to skills, experience, internal equity, and business needs. In addition to base salary, other compensation programs, depending on eligibility, include an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance, and an equity grant under our Associate Equity Appreciation Program.
