Finance Domain Architect

The Finance Domain Architect defines and governs the technology strategy for all finance systems, including ERP, subledger, reconciliation and financial reporting. The role will serve as the bridge between financial leadership and engineering teams, translating complex business requirements into scalable, secure, and future-ready architecture.

Key responsibilities

  • Serve as the architectural lead for finance technology, defining and driving a cohesive target-state architecture across a complex landscape of legacy platforms, vendor solutions, and custom-built systems.
  • Partner with Finance, Technology, and other key stakeholders to identify capability gaps and deliver targeted architecture solutions.
  • Provide architectural leadership for modernization and transformation initiatives, ensuring solutions are scalable, regulatory-ready, and auditable.
  • Drive application rationalization: define the canonical finance application portfolio, identify redundancy, and lead platform consolidation decisions.
  • Translate finance business needs into clear, actionable architectural designs and multi-year technology roadmaps.
  • Develop and maintain architecture artifacts: capability maps, reference architectures, solution patterns, and IT best practices.
  • Establish integration standards and data architecture patterns across finance systems, ensuring data integrity, lineage, and regulatory compliance (SOX, IFRS, GAAP, etc.).
  • Participate in Architecture Review Boards (ARB) to present finance domain architecture.
  • Engage directly with delivery teams by reviewing designs, guiding implementation decisions, and resolving complex architecture trade-offs.
  • Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies, including cloud migration, AI/ML in finance, and real-time reporting, and monitor industry best practices and regulatory trends, recommending innovations that enhance finance operations and compliance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7+ years of experience as a Solution or Enterprise Architect, with at least 5 years focused on finance systems.
  • Strong business acumen, including financial processes: record-to-report, procure-to-pay, treasury, and financial consolidation and reporting.
  • Experience with the finance applications landscape: Oracle Financial ERP, BlackLine, treasury platforms, financial reporting systems.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML architecture patterns for finance (anomaly detection, forecasting, close automation, etc.)
  • Distributed architecture experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and hybrid integration patterns.
  • Ability to operate at a conceptual level while remaining hands-on where it matters.
  • Willingness to challenge legacy patterns to drive durable, compliant, long-term outcomes.
  • Demonstrated success modernizing fragmented financial applications into integrated end-to-end financial solutions.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise data governance and integration patterns.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to influence IT development teams, business stakeholders and leadership.
