We are looking for a resourceful Contingent Workforce Liaison (Business Partner) to support our business-centric, collaborative, and motivated team. We are successfully pioneering a better way to work by enabling businesses and freelancers across the globe to connect, work together, and grow their professional success. You will work across the company to help drive strategy, compliance, and education for our internal hybrid workforce programs.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Partner with Upwork managers and key stakeholders to advise, educate, and influence on a wide range of contingent workforce issues, both internal and external. 
  • Achieve a deep understanding of the business strategy, goals and objectives and support organizational changes by developing and implementing appropriate change management plans.
  • Communicate and elevate awareness of Hybrid Workforce Program(s). Lead education efforts and provide extraordinary business partnerships to ensure adoption and compliance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners such as Employment Counsel to drive consistency and compliance
  • Coach and provide guidance on worker relations for a wide range of issues.  May include conducting investigations in response to issues and recommend/implement course of action based on investigation results.
  • Define the approach to our contingent workforce management based on external and internal benchmarking of best practices, and collaborate with business leaders to continually reassess program, process, and policies
  • Identify areas of compliance risk and proactively partner with HR and Legal teams to drive solutions
  • Track global issues that may impact our hybrid workforce.  Advise leadership on issues and recommend solutions

What it takes to catch our eye:

  • Contingent workforce support experience
  • Experience in vendor compliance and management, including managing worker relations issues
  • Working knowledge of U.S. employment law requirements and application of international employment law advice 
  • Consulting, coaching and facilitation experience
  • Superior relationship/stakeholder management and consultative skills
  • Strong understanding of independent contractor legal standards to make classification determinations, write compliant project descriptions, ensure proper contracting, and identify risk warranting legal advice
  • HR Program Manager or HR Business Partner experience
