Role description:
The MEPF Team (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection) is a cross-functional team delivering innovative building services solutions that enhance energy efficiency, sustainability, and occupant comfort. Through collaboration with global teams, the GEC plays a key role in project delivery using advanced and innovative approaches, including computational design.
As a Principal Extra Low Voltage Engineer, you will provide technical leadership, design assurance, and subject matter expertise across complex building services projects. You will guide project teams, review and influence key design decisions, support quality and delivery outcomes, and help develop the technical capability of engineers within the GEC. You will also collaborate closely with global delivery partners to ensure coordinated, efficient, and high-quality project delivery, while promoting innovation, standardization, and continuous improvement across the team.
Role accountabilities:
- Provide technical leadership in the design of electrical extra low voltage (ELV) systems, including Structured Cabling and Data Networks, CCTV and Video Surveillance Systems, Fire Detection and Alarm Systems, Intruder Detection Systems, Security Systems, Sound Systems, and Access Control Solutions. Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, client requirements, and industry best practices while supporting multidisciplinary project integration and resolving complex technical challenges throughout the project lifecycle.
- Lead the preparation and review of comprehensive deliverables across project phases, including calculations, specifications, reports, presentations, schematic designs, 3D models and working drawings & sketches.
- Verify, challenge and assure design solutions to ensure they are safe, coordinated, technically robust, commercially aware and aligned with client, project, statutory and scope requirements.
- Provide direction and guidance to colleagues managing large, complex or multidisciplinary projects, supporting effective delivery, decision-making and technical quality.
- Lead discipline-level project delivery by ensuring clear scope agreements, budgets, resource plans, schedules and multidisciplinary coordination are in place.
- Drive continuous improvement in design delivery by promoting standardization, automation, digital tools and consistent ways of working that improve quality, efficiency and team performance.
- Contribute to technical capability development by sharing knowledge, mentoring colleagues and strengthening discipline expertise.
- Embed sustainability, safety-in-design, accessibility, maintainability, coordination, buildability and emerging technologies into project delivery.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, building services or a related field.
- Minimum of 8 years’ relevant postgraduate experience in electrical extra low voltage design for buildings.
- Excellent knowledge of electrical extra low voltage systems, relevant standards, legislation and design/delivery tools including Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Revit and BIM environments.
- Strong technical background with experience delivering complex multidisciplinary projects across different geographies, delivery centers or global teams.
- Strong understanding of design assurance, technical review processes, safety-in-design and quality management.
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to delegate effectively, mentor electrical engineers from Graduate to Principal level, provide technical direction, support decision-making and contribute to discipline leadership through process improvement, knowledge sharing and capability development.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and manage work effectively, applying analytical thinking, problem-solving skills and commercial awareness to support efficient, high-quality delivery.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to convey technical information clearly, professionally and effectively to colleagues, clients and project stakeholders.
- Committed to continuous professional development, with a willingness to learn new tools, systems, technical skills and ways of working within an engineering consultancy environment.
Nice to Have
- BMS/SCADA Design Engineer experience: control philosophy development, BMS architecture design, Network design for building automation systems.
- Master’s degree or above in building services or a related field.
- Experience supporting tender teams, technical proposals, early-stage advisory work, international clients or multidisciplinary teams across multiple countries.
- Ability to identify practical opportunities for standardization, automation and digital improvement that enhance design quality, efficiency and consistency.
- Awareness of emerging technologies and their application within sustainable building services design.
- Certified as a Security Systems Designer.
- Familiar with WiFi heatmapping Tools like Ekahau.
- Familiar with acoustic calculation tools (Ease);
