The Boeing Company is currently seeking a Lead Software Engineer–Simulation to support our Phantom Works - Virtual Warfare Center team located in Berkeley, Missouri. This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Software Engineering organization.  

As part of the Virtual Warfare Center (VWC) software engineering team, the selected individual will lead a team of engineers in the development, maintenance and execution of simulation toolsets used to host large scale virtual simulation experiments. Multiple simulation toolsets, AFSIM (Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration, and Modeling), VISE (Virtual Integrated Simulation Environment) and Simworks to name a few, will be used to execute the Operator in the Loop (OITL) real time multi domain simulation experiments at the VWC. 

 

This position requires knowledge of Modeling and Simulation in the Space Domain, Distributive Interactive Simulation (DIS) standards and communication protocols. This engineer will work with a long-standing customer to meet all contracted software requirements. This position requires a Software Lead to coordinate all software development activities, to include requirements gathering, analysis, planning and development of a technology roadmap as well as software architecture, development and testing.  

This lead will be responsible for developing innovative approaches to meeting multiple customers' needs and integration of industry partners simulations into the large-scale virtual test environmentThe selected candidate will have to develop a close relationship with multiple teams, the customer and industry partners to ensure timely completion of contractual commitments. The selected individual will also help develop early-career employees on the team through mentoring and coaching. 

 

Position Responsibilities:  

  • Lead software development within the program space for the virtual experimentation toolset in support of Contractual Research and Development efforts as supplied by our customers. 

  • Leads analysis and translation of complex software requirements into system architecture and software designs 

  • Provides guidance to resolve complex issues on the software approaches, requirements, and implementation 

  • Provides technical leadership for software projects and mentors the teams engineers 

  • Oversees validation, verification, and refinement of simulation software code, models, simulations, test procedures and test environments, executing test procedures, documenting test results and modeling against real-world data, test data, benchmarks, or other similar models. 

  • Reviews the documentation and maintenance of technical code, algorithms, specifications and descriptions of simulation models. 

  • Oversees implementing current and emerging technologies, tools, frameworks, and methods in the software engineering simulation environment. 

  • Oversees modernizing, migrating, sustaining, and updating simulation software to adapt legacy systems to new operating systems. 

  • Oversees simulation software project management functions. 

  • Advises management and influences internal practices on a wide range of topics related to the software engineering simulation environments. 

  • Partners with stakeholders to advise on the review and identification of simulation requirements and dynamics of the systems being simulated. 

  • Oversees the design, architecture, and development of simulation models, simulation visualizations, virtual environments/platforms and frameworks to enhance test performance, safety, and durability of software and hardware systems throughout the entire product lifecycle. 

 

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience): 

  • 10+ years of experience in C# and / or C++ 

  • 5+ years of experience in both Linux and Windows development

  • 10+ years of experience in using configuration management tools 

  • 5 years of experience in leading a project or technical team 

 

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience): 

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science. 

  • Experience with VISE and AFSIM 

  • Experience with Distributive Interactive Simulation (DIS) standards 

  • Experience with operator in the loop real time simulation 

  • Understanding of software security posture in proprietary areas 

  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously 

  • Knowledge of software architecture and design methodologies. Ability to synthesize software architectures and designs that meet requirements, characteristics and constraints.

Summary pay range for Lead Level (Level 5): $187,000 - $253,000
