Solar Turbines Incorporated, headquartered in San Diego, California, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Caterpillar Inc. Solar manufactures the world’s most widely used family of mid-sized industrial gas turbines, ranging from 1 to 38 megawatts. Solar is a leading provider of energy solutions, featuring an extensive line of gas turbine-powered compressors and generators which can operate on a variety of fuels such as hydrogen, renewable diesel, digester gas, and natural gas. 

The job entails leading the development and implementation of Solar’s products and services for the data center market, contributing to the company's strategic growth objectives. Key responsibilities include market analysis, market introduction, brand and solution awareness, and ensuring customer satisfaction. 

What You Will Do: 

Tasks include evaluating market opportunities, establishing external contacts, presenting at conferences, developing commercialization plans, assisting the definition of product specifications, developing internal tools to assist sales, and supporting proposal efforts. The role also involves reporting progress to senior management and supporting sales initiatives. 

What You Need To Have: 

Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience. 

Business Acumen:  

  • Leverage experience from a gas turbine, boiler, steam turbine, or reciprocating engine manufacturer to analyze a project’s value proposition for both customer and OEM 

  • Analyzes the value of a business and its functions through the value estimation of assets. 

  • Collaborates with stakeholders, development teams, testing teams, etc., to deliver business solutions. 

  • Utilizes diverse analysis tools and methodologies to group different business activities based on shared characteristics or similarities.  

  • Caters to key stakeholders and their priorities. 

Business Markets:  

  • Recognizes key players and major competitors in electric power developer market. 

  • Monitors regulatory and reporting environment within an assigned market. 

  • Summarizes strategies related to key operating issues and key players within the market. 

  • Researches characteristics of an assigned market and its segments. 

  • Collects information relevant to business strategies and initiatives 

Business Development:  

  • Summarizes the stages of project development lifecycle. 

  • Assists in developing new geographical areas for the organization's products or services. 

  • Researches approaches for exploring new business opportunities. 
     

Strategic Thinking:  

Raises awareness of potential strategic alliances and partnerships. 

  • Explains elements of the strategy to others and encourages questions. 

  • Monitors marketplace trends, opportunities, and vulnerabilities; reports findings. 

  • Makes sound recommendations when faced with complex and contradictory alternatives. 

  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills required for preparation and presentation of well written documentation

Alignment:  

  • Leverages power market knowledge and assimilates new information quickly with a sense of how it applies to the vision. 

  • Identifies inconsistencies or discrepancies between data and the vision it supports. 

~50% travel requirement

Multiple locations within driving distance to a Solar or Caterpillar location
