The Position
The Vice President of Payment Technology is responsible for driving initiatives and engineering best practices across Discover’s Enterprise Payments Platform (EPP). EPP is built on a modern stack of technologies and tools using cloud native micro services running in both public and private cloud infrastructures.
This senior leader will work closely with both internal and external business partners and peers in technology to align tech and business strategies and develop innovative common platform solutions that enable global growth for Payment and Debit Services.
Responsibilities:
- Provide guidance and leadership to the Payment Services business units to support complex technology needs required to deliver best in class core payment or debit application services.
- Effectively translate strategic business objectives into tactical IT plans and to deliver on these plans in a cost effective manner, and to provide solutions.
- Work effectively with business leaders to understand and support business imperatives and partner with them to develop, deploy, and support IT solutions that maximize business value.
- Working effectively with peers to ensure that both business needs and Business Technology objectives, performance metrics, quality measures, and budget targets are achieved.
- Effectively translate strategic business objectives into tactical IT plans and to deliver on these plans in a cost effective manner, and to provide solutions.
- Continuously improve the application delivery practices, processes and tools, driving further adoption of Agile, Continuous Integration/Delivery, DevOps, and Lean IT practices.
- Build strong, highly productive and cohesive teams through your own contribution, professionalism, and leadership; building the leadership and management potential while managing the succession planning for the department.
- Demonstrate the ability to use information security best practices in external and internal applications as a preventative measure.
- Provide industry thought leadership through speaking engagements and participation within vendor user groups.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience required. Master’s degree preferred.
- 15+ years of experience of technology experience in financial services, payments or debit network experience.
- 5+ years of people leadership experience.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills including written and verbal communication skills, high level of business savvy and ability to operate at and with all levels in the organization.
- Strong IT fundamentals with keen vision towards achieving departmental goals.
- Proven track record of driving transformation across an IT Development function, both in terms of people and culture and in terms of optimizing the application landscape.
