Team Overview
At TransUnion, the Data Governance team plays a critical role in ensuring our data assets are understood, governed, and used responsibly to support compliance, innovation, speed to market, and data value maximization. The team partners across the enterprise to establish and continuously improve the policies, standards, processes, and controls that enable effective data management and risk mitigation.As part of the broader Data Governance organization, this team reports to the VP, Data Governance and works closely with business units, data owners, data stewards, and stakeholders across TransUnion to advance our mission of delivering Information for Good through strong data quality, accountability, and governance practices. This is a hybrid position and involves regular performance of job responsibilities virtually as well as in-person at an assigned TU office location for a minimum of two days a week.
Role Overview and Core Responsibilities
Lead initiatives that strengthen TransUnion’s data governance policies, standards, processes, and operating model to support compliant, effective, and scalable use of data across the enterprise.
Design, implement, and continuously improve Data Governance operations, including detective monitoring, anomaly detection, corrective action, and ongoing compliance oversight.
Partner with data owners, data stewards, business leaders, and cross-functional stakeholders to identify, prioritize, and address data-related issues, risks, controls, and opportunities.
Develop and maintain an ongoing view of TransUnion’s data risks and controls, ensuring mitigation efforts are aligned with strategic objectives and enterprise risk expectations.
Collect, analyze, and synthesize information from large and complex data sets to identify patterns, trends, risks, and opportunities, translating findings into clear insights and actionable recommendations.
Create, maintain, socialize, and support adoption of data governance policies and standards across the organization, ensuring stakeholders understand expectations and accountability.
Facilitate discussions with senior leaders and stakeholder groups whose goals, responsibilities, and priorities related to data may vary or conflict.
Lead data governance projects from initiation through implementation, including developing estimates, business cases, budgets, project plans, schedules, and change coordination.
Champion a stronger enterprise understanding of Data Governance principles, processes, and value, helping teams adopt practices that improve data quality, compliance, and business outcomes.
Anticipate customer and stakeholder needs, proactively providing relevant solutions that support continuous improvement, agility, and customer-focused results.
Required Knowledge and Experiences
Bachelor’s degree in Data Management, Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Business Administration, Engineering, Statistics, or a related field, or equivalent experience applying data governance, data management, analytics, or risk management practices in a complex business environment.
At least 10 years of experience participating in and managing projects related to establishing, maintaining, and improving data governance policies, standards, processes, and governance operations.
Strong knowledge of data governance, data management, data quality, data policy, business process management, and risk management, with the ability to apply these disciplines to enterprise-level data challenges.
Proven experience leading organizational and behavioral change, including influencing stakeholders, facilitating decision-making, and driving alignment across groups with competing priorities.
Demonstrated ability to analyze complex data sets, recognize patterns and trends, organize observations into useful formats, and communicate recommendations clearly to all levels of the organization.
Experience using data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Apache Superset to analyze, interpret, and communicate data risks, trends, issues, and opportunities.
Hands-on ability to work with large and complex data sets, including identifying patterns, interpreting findings, and translating data into actionable business insights.
Strong project management capabilities, including planning, estimating, budgeting, scheduling, tracking progress, coordinating changes, and driving initiatives through implementation.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present data governance concepts, findings, and recommendations to technical, business, and senior leadership audiences.
Strong planning, organization, stakeholder management, and customer management skills, with the ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
Experience working in highly regulated, data-intensive environments where governance, compliance, risk management, and data quality are critical to business success.
Familiarity with enterprise data cataloging, data stewardship, data ownership models, metadata management, and control monitoring practices.
Ability to tell the “big picture” story through data, connecting trends, measurements, and operational details to strategic recommendations.
Curiosity and a strong desire to learn in a hands-on environment, with a passion for data quality, continuous improvement, customer service, inclusion, and agile ways of working.
Experience building and leading stakeholder communities or working groups focused on data-related issues, risks, standards, and opportunities.

Pay Scale Information:The U.S. base salary range for this position is $150,100.00 - $225,000.00 annually. *The salary range for this position reflects a reasonable estimate of the range of compensation for this job. At TransUnion, actual compensation is based on careful consideration of additional factors such as (but not limited to) an individual’s education, training, work experience, job-related skill set, location, and industry knowledge, as well as the scope and responsibilities of the position and market considerations. Regular, fulltime non-sales positions may be eligible to participate in TransUnion’s annual bonus plan. Certain positions may be also eligible for long-term incentives and other payments based on applicable company guidance and plan documents.
