The Principal, Automation Engineer, Tools Support & Onboarding is a senior hands-on technical leader responsible for enabling, supporting, and advancing enterprise Quality Engineering (QE) tools, automation platforms, and onboarding capabilities across Humana. This role serves as a trusted technical advisor to Quality Engineering, Engineering, DevOps, Product, and Architecture teams, ensuring successful adoption, integration, and utilization of enterprise testing and automation solutions.
The Principal Automation Engineer will lead the implementation and support of enterprise quality engineering tools and platforms, establish best practices, drive tool standardization, and enable teams to maximize the value of automation and testing investments. This individual will be responsible for supporting and optimizing technologies such as Azure DevOps (ADO), qTest, Tricentis Tosca, Selenium, Playwright, API automation frameworks, CI/CD platforms, AI-enabled testing solutions, and related quality engineering tools while improving delivery efficiency, quality, traceability, and governance.
This role functions as a senior technical leader and subject matter expert, ensuring consistent tool adoption, onboarding processes, training programs, integration standards, operational support, and continuous improvement across Humana's quality engineering ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities 

Enterprise QE Tools Strategy 

  • Define and execute Humana's enterprise Quality Engineering tools strategy, roadmap, and adoption plans. 
  • Establish standards, governance models, operating procedures, and best practices for enterprise testing and automation tools. 
  • Evaluate, recommend, and support enterprise-wide quality engineering solutions that improve productivity, quality, and delivery outcomes. 
  • Lead proof-of-concepts (POCs), pilots, and assessments of emerging testing, automation, AI, and DevOps technologies. 
  • Serve as the enterprise subject matter expert for QE tools, test management platforms, automation solutions, and quality engineering best practices. 

 

Enterprise QE Tools Support & Onboarding 

  • Provide technical leadership and operational support for enterprise quality engineering tools including Azure DevOps (ADO), qTest, Tricentis Tosca, Selenium, Playwright, AI-enabled testing platforms, and related solutions. 
  • Lead onboarding activities for application, development, and QE teams to ensure successful adoption of enterprise tools and processes. 
  • Partner with Segment QE teams to implement tool capabilities, improve utilization, and establish consistent testing practices across the organization. 
  • Develop and maintain onboarding frameworks, implementation guides, training materials, knowledge repositories, standards, and self-service support resources. 
  • Support tool configuration, administration, integrations, upgrades, troubleshooting, and operational readiness activities. 
  • Establish end-to-end integration patterns across test management, requirements, automation, defect management, CI/CD, release management, and reporting platforms. 
  • Enable traceability across business requirements, user stories, test cases, automation assets, defects, releases, and production outcomes. 
  • Collaborate with vendor partners and internal platform teams to evaluate enhancements, roadmap opportunities, and tool optimization initiatives. 
  • Drive continuous improvements in tool adoption, user experience, platform stability, governance compliance, and operational effectiveness. 
  • Mentor Quality Engineers, Automation Engineers, SDETs, and delivery teams on enterprise tools, quality engineering practices, and automation capabilities. 

 

AI-Powered Quality Engineering & Intelligent Testing 

  • Evaluate and implement AI-enabled capabilities that improve testing efficiency, user productivity, and quality outcomes. 
  • Lead adoption of AI-powered testing solutions including test generation, intelligent test maintenance, risk-based testing, self-healing automation, and predictive quality analytics. 
  • Conduct proof-of-concepts and pilots for emerging Generative AI technologies and intelligent testing platforms. 
  • Develop best practices and governance standards for AI-assisted testing and automation solutions. 
  • Partner with engineering teams to integrate AI capabilities into testing workflows, delivery pipelines, and quality engineering processes. 
  • Drive innovation through intelligent automation, advanced analytics, and data-driven decision-making. 

 

Enterprise Consulting & Technical Leadership 

  • Provide technical consulting, guidance, and support to Quality Engineering and application delivery teams across Humana business segments. 
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, product teams, and platform organizations to implement effective testing and automation tool solutions. 
  • Assess tool usage, process maturity, and adoption challenges, providing recommendations for optimization and continuous improvement. 
  • Support enterprise transformation initiatives involving quality engineering modernization, DevOps, test management, automation, and AI adoption. 
  • Partner with leadership teams to establish enterprise governance, support models, standards, and operational excellence practices. 

 

DevOps, CI/CD & Engineering Excellence 

  • Support integration of enterprise quality engineering tools within DevOps, CI/CD, and continuous testing operating models. 
  • Enable automated quality gates, release readiness validations, and testing workflows throughout the software development lifecycle. 
  • Implement best practices supporting continuous integration, continuous testing, release management, and continuous delivery. 
  • Partner with DevOps, Platform Engineering, and application teams to improve tool integrations, automation workflows, and execution environments. 
  • Promote engineering excellence through standardized tool adoption, automation enablement, process optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field. 
  • 12+ years of Quality Engineering, Test Management, Automation Engineering, SDET, or Software Engineering experience. 
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience implementing, supporting, administering, or enabling enterprise testing and automation tools. 
  • Deep expertise with enterprise quality engineering tools including:  
  • Azure DevOps (ADO) 
  • qTest 
  • Tricentis Tosca 
  • Selenium 
  • Playwright 
  • API Testing and Automation Tools 
  • CI/CD Platforms 
  • Experience supporting tool integrations across test management, automation, requirements, release management, and DevOps ecosystems. 
  • Strong understanding of Agile, DevOps, Continuous Integration, Continuous Testing, and Continuous Delivery practices. 
  • Experience leading onboarding, enablement, training, adoption, and support initiatives for enterprise engineering tools. 
  • Excellent communication, leadership, consulting, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills. 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience in healthcare, insurance, financial services, or other highly regulated industries. 
  • Experience implementing AI-driven testing tools and intelligent automation platforms. 
  • Experience evaluating and conducting proof-of-concepts for enterprise software platforms and testing technologies. 
  • Knowledge of Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), prompt engineering, and AI-assisted software testing. 
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP. 
  • Experience supporting enterprise-wide quality engineering, test management, or DevOps transformation initiatives.

Work at Home Requirements: To ensure Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees’ ability to work effectively, the self-provided internet service of Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees must meet the following criteria: At minimum, a download speed of 25 Mbps and an upload speed of 10 Mbps is required; wireless, wired cable or DSL connection is suggested. In certain roles, the minimum recommended internet speed required by Humana may not be sufficient for business needs. Humana reserves the right to require associates to upgrade their internet service if necessary. Work from a dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information.
Travel: While this is a remote position, occasional travel to Humana's offices for training or meetings may be required.

Pay Range

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.


 

$156,600 - $215,400 per year


 

This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
