Job Description

The Project Manager III serves as a senior-level leader responsible for managing highly complex, system-wide initiatives that involve executive-level visibility, cross-portfolio coordination, and significant financial and strategic implications. This role acts as a thought partner to leadership, drives governance alignment, and coaches other IS Portfolio Execution project managers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead high-priority, enterprise-scale initiatives with strategic impact across MUSC Health.
  • Define and drive program-level scope, success criteria, KPIs, and governance structure.
  • Oversee interrelated projects and cross-functional teams, ensuring alignment with institutional strategy.
  • Serve as a liaison to executive sponsors and strategic leadership groups.
  • Manage significant budgets, capital planning, and vendor coordination when applicable.
  • Facilitate strategic decision-making sessions and issue resolution forums.
  • Identify systemic barriers to execution and propose portfolio-level improvements.
  • Provide oversight, quality control, and coaching to Project Manager I and II team members.
  • Develop and implement change management plans in collaboration with stakeholders and leadership.
  • Serve on internal governance, prioritization, or advisory boards representing the IS Portfolio Execution.
  • Lead post-implementation reviews, benefit realization assessments, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Champion IS PM best practices and contribute to the evolution of enterprise project methodologies.

Additional Job Description

Required Education/Skills/Work Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree or advanced certification (e.g., PMP, PgMP, Lean Six Sigma) preferred or 6–8+ years of progressive experience in project/program management with demonstrated success leading strategic initiatives.
  • Proven track record of managing enterprise-level, cross-functional projects in complex environments.
  • Strong financial acumen, including project oversight and ROI assessments.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience presenting to executives, boards, or steering committees.
  • Familiarity with healthcare delivery, academic medicine, and digital health strategy a plus.
