Job Title: Research & Trial Technology Consultant
Position Summary:
Magna Legal Services is seeking a Research & Trial Technology Consultant to support the preparation and presentation of evidence during jury research, mock trials, and focus groups. This role combines technical expertise, presentation skills, and collaboration with research teams to ensure seamless execution of both in-person and virtual research sessions.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, tech-savvy, and thrives in a fast-paced environment that requires travel, real-time problem-solving, and a deep understanding of trial presentation technology.
This role is remote with on-site travel required. Preferred candidates will be based in locations that include California, Texas, and Illinois, or nearby states within these regions.
Key Responsibilities:
Focus Group Presentation & Data Collection
- Configure and operate presentation and data collection technology during jury research projects.
- Manage focus group AV logistics, including participant setup and on-site coordination.
- Collect, organize, and deliver data and video recordings to research teams for processing.
- Maintain and evaluate current data collection software (e.g., Turning Point), and explore new technologies for potential implementation.
Internal Collaboration
- Partner with internal departments, jury consultants, graphic designers, and litigation specialists—to ensure seamless project execution.
- Share insights and technical best practices to improve processes and outcomes.
Focus Group & Research Technology
- Assess focus group spaces and recommend optimal presentation setups (e.g., projectors, monitors, audio systems, HDMI distribution/switching hardware).
- Operate presentation systems during live sessions and troubleshoot technical issues as they arise.
OnCue Database Management
- Build and manage OnCue databases for research projects.
- Receive, convert, and organize electronic exhibits and video files.
- Synchronize, edit, and create deposition video clips using TimeCoder Pro and OnCue.
Video Editing & Graphic Design
- Capture, edit, and prepare videos for presentation using software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Camtasia, or TMPGEnc.
- Design and edit simple graphics and exhibits using Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite.
Presentation & Live Operation
- Operate as the “hot seat” technician during focus groups—displaying, annotating, and modifying exhibits in real-time using PowerPoint or OnCue.
Archiving & Case Finalization
- Archive or securely destroy presentation and data materials in compliance with company and client policies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience in legal technology, communications, or a related field.
- Experience in trial presentation, AV technology, or jury research support preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and PowerPoint, and Zoom
- Knowledge of OnCue, TimeCoder Pro, and standard presentation/video editing software a plus.
- Familiarity with AV systems, operation, and basic troubleshooting.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to travel for on-site support (typically 40–50%).
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
Compensation: USD $50,000 starting salary + bonuses
An employee’s pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, travel requirements, revenue-based metrics, any contractual agreements, and business or organizational needs.
