Codal is searching for a Senior Accountant to manage core accounting functions, ensure the accuracy of financial reporting, and support strategic financial decisions across the organization. To ensure success, you should have extensive experience with full-cycle accounting, financial analysis, and process improvement, along with a forward-looking mindset toward AI-driven automation. This role involves maintaining high quality and standards across all financial operations to support Codal's continued growth.

Please note: this role is only open to candidates in Chicago and the Chicagoland area. 

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
  • AI & Automation: Build automation using AI and various finance and accounting tools to streamline operations, reduce manual effort, and improve the speed and accuracy of financial workflows.
  • Lead with Data: Solid understanding of data models and advanced Excel; ability to structure, analyze, and present financial data to drive decisions
  • General Ledger Management: Own the full-cycle accounting process, including journal entries, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and account reconciliations.
  • Month-End & Year-End Close: Lead close processes, performing variance analysis, and resolving discrepancies to deliver clean, reliable financials.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Partner with leadership to develop budgets, financial plans, and ad hoc reports to support data-driven decision-making.
  • Process Improvement: Develop and refine accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to drive operational efficiency and scalability.
  • Collaboration and Vendor Management: Collaborate globally with our outside financial team.

Ideal Candidate Skills
  • Experience: 5+ years of progressive, hands-on accounting experience with increasing responsibility
  • Agentic AI Operations: Hands-on experience deploying and operating agentic AI workflows within finance and accounting functions, including identifying automation opportunities and managing AI-assisted processes
  • Industry Experience: Prior experience working in an agency or professional services environment
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong command of GAAP and accounting best practices; experience with project-based accounting or revenue recognition
  • Systems Proficiency: Hands-on experience with QuickBooks, Brex, and Bill.com
  • Analytical Mindset: Proven ability to identify financial trends, resolve discrepancies, and translate data into actionable insights.
  • Standards: Commitment to maintaining high standards of accuracy, compliance, and financial integrity across all deliverables.
  • Compliance & Tax: Awareness of federal, state, and local tax regulations; assist with tax preparation, filings, and audit support.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.

Pay range
$100,000$130,000 USD
