The Senior Advisor, Anti-Corruption is an individual contributor reporting to the Director, Ethical Culture and Anti-Corruption. The Senior Advisor supports the development, implementation, and ongoing oversight of the enterprise Anti-Bribery and Anti-Corruption (ABAC) Program. The role provides practical, risk-based advice to business partners, leads risk assessments, manages complex matters, and helps ensure the organization meets applicable anti-bribery and anti-corruption laws and regulatory expectations. The Senior Advisor is a key subject matter expert and partner to business lines, corporate functions, Compliance, Legal, Risk, and other areas of the Ethics team, including Conduct Risk, Conflicts, and Speaking Up. The Senior Advisor will have the following key responsibilities, however broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed:

ABAC Program Management

  • Acts as an enterprise lead for governance and oversight of key aspects of the anti-bribery and anti-corruption program, including gifts and entertainment, hiring practices involving public officials, sponsorships, charitable contributions, third-party risk management, and other bribery and corruption risk matters.

  • Supports the design, implementation, and ongoing enhancement of the enterprise Anti-Bribery and Anti-Corruption Program.

  • Drafts, reviews, and provides expert input on policies, procedures, guidance, and governance documents to ensure clarity, consistency, and enterprise alignment.

  • Monitors regulatory developments, emerging risks, and industry practices related to bribery and corruption.

  • Identifies opportunities to strengthen controls and enhance program effectiveness.

  • Supports the management of exceptions, reporting, control development, monitoring, and testing activities.

Advisory and Risk Management

  • Provides advice and guidance on complex bribery and corruption risks, including gifts and entertainment, third-party risk management, sponsorships, charitable contributions, hiring practices involving public officials, books and records requirements, new initiatives, and emerging risks.

  • Reviews and assesses high-risk transactions, activities, escalations, and other matters requiring Ethics engagement.

  • Supports business partners in identifying, assessing, and mitigating bribery and corruption risks.

  • Translates policy and enterprise expectations into practical, risk-based guidance for employees and leaders.

Governance and Monitoring

  • Leads periodic bribery and corruption reviews and risk assessments.

  • Analyzes trends, identifies vulnerabilities, and recommends mitigation strategies.

  • Develops metrics and reporting to assess program effectiveness and support senior management and governance committee updates.

  • Supports compliance testing, issue management, remediation, audit, and regulatory initiatives requiring senior Ethics engagement.

  • Maintains strong governance, documentation, and evidence practices.

Partnership, Enablement and Influence

  • Acts as a lead Ethics partner for international anti-bribery and anti-corruption partners, developing a strong understanding of local requirements and supporting alignment between global and local programs.

  • Leads or supports enterprise and cross-functional change initiatives, including planning, partner engagement, execution, and sustainment.

  • Designs and delivers targeted anti-bribery, anti-corruption, and ethics training to reinforce Code of Conduct requirements and expectations.

  • Defines business requirements for analytics and reporting to support insight-driven decision-making.

  • Builds and maintains strong internal and external relationships to stay informed of emerging practices and standards.

  • Leads or supports additional enterprise initiatives and priorities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Typically 7 or more years of relevant experience in legal, compliance, risk, or a similar senior advisory role, with demonstrated experience translating regulatory or policy expectations into practical outcomes; post-secondary degree or equivalent experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide independent, risk-based advice and influence outcomes at senior levels.

  • Advanced analytical, critical-thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Strong written, verbal, executive-level communication, and presentation skills.

  • Proven ability to manage ambiguity, multiple priorities, and complex stakeholder relationships while operating independently and collaborating effectively across teams.

  • Strong knowledge of anti-bribery and anti-corruption legislation, regulatory expectations, and industry practices is an asset.

  • Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI, and Copilot is an asset.

  • Strong knowledge of BMO products, services, and operating groups are assets.

Salary:

$112,200.00 - $209,000.00

Salaried

The above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
