As a Payments Negotiation Attorney in the Payments Legal Team, you will provide transactional and strategic legal support for client contract negotiations in wholesale payments. You will advise on transaction structures and legal and regulatory issues, helping us deliver customer documentation that is clear and compliant. You will collaborate with product counsel and other legal teams to maintain templates, playbooks, and negotiation technology tools that scale best practices. You will help us protect the firm while enabling our clients to achieve their business objectives.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Draft and negotiate a wide range of wholesale payments client documentation
  • Advise business partners on transaction structures and associated legal and regulatory issues
  • Coordinate with product counsel and other legal teams to maintain agreement templates and negotiation playbooks
  • Support the development and adoption of negotiation technology tools to improve speed, consistency, and quality
  • Review customer-facing documentation to ensure it is clear, accurate, and compliant with applicable laws and regulations
  • Partner with stakeholders across functions to align legal guidance with business needs and risk standards
  • Identify recurring negotiation themes and recommend practical updates to templates, guidance, and processes


Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills 

  • Law degree and active license to practice law in the country of employment by the start date
  • 3 years of experience at a major law firm, financial institution, or in a judicial clerkship
  • Demonstrated negotiation skills and ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Working knowledge of banking law, including Uniform Commercial Code Articles 4 and 4A
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities


Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills 

  • Knowledge of wholesale payments products and services
  • Experience working with merchant services processors or providers
  • Experience with commercial card products
  • Understanding of financial technology and third-party payment processors and applicable legal requirements
  • Familiarity with healthcare payments and health information privacy requirements
