About the Team
Capital One is a high-tech company, a scientific laboratory, and a nationally recognized brand all in one reaching tens of millions of consumers. We are a passionate and entrepreneurial team embracing bold ideas, fostering collaboration and delivering great experiences for our customers.
AI is transforming software development, presenting us with a unique opportunity to instrument and capture data about how these tools are transforming how we build software. In this role, you will lead the charge to gather comprehensive telemetry about the full software development process and ecosystem at Capital One. Your core challenge will be defining a destination for this data and a strategy to guide us to collect the right information, in the right way, with the right guardrails. As a Senior Director, Developer Telemetry, you will lead the Developer Experience (DevX) Telemetry workstream.
By capturing this telemetry at a fine grain, you will help create a durable asset for the company that can be leveraged for analysis and decisioning well into the future. You will work closely with stakeholders across Engineering, Machine Learning, Cyber, and Enterprise Data to build data products for developer use cases, model and token usage dashboards, and mechanisms for cost optimization. We're looking for a leader who can define our boundaries for telemetry and execute a vision that balances capturing as much data as possible with strict adherence to privacy and security principles.
Successful candidates will also demonstrate:
  • The ability to drive the organizational journey from "data-driven understanding" to automated "data-driven decisioning."
  • A strategic approach to navigating our architecture, which currently results in fragmented telemetry, to create cohesive, unified data products.
  • Expertise in establishing both rule-based evaluation (using deterministic logic) and model-based evaluation (using probabilistic models).
  • Experience defining and measuring critical outcomes such as flow/efficiency, quality, developer experience, ROI, and safety & legal compliance.
  • The ability to weigh the value of captured data against potential risks, carefully managing surveillance risk, cost/complexity risk, false signaling risk, and compliance risk.
  • A strong understanding of how to integrate and capture data across various streams, including code telemetry, infrastructure, on-machine tools, and human-agent collaboration

Capital One Product Framework
In this role, you'll be expected to demonstrate proficiency in five key areas which we consider to be the foundation for successful Product management:
  • Human Centered - Obsesses about internal and external customer needs to reimagine and innovate product solutions
  • Business Focused - Delivers game-changing outcomes by focusing on leverage and execution excellence
  • Technology Driven - Leverages technology to deliver innovative and resilient solutions that enable both near term and long term value
  • Integrated Problem Solving - Identifies and resolves complex problems to deliver outcomes while mitigating product risks
  • Transformational Leadership - Leads cross functional teams to solve customer problems and drive organizational alignment

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in any field and at least 7 years of Product Management experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience translating complex data strategy and business analysis into actionable data products or developer-facing tools.
  • Deep expertise in software development life cycle (SDLC) metrics, developer productivity tools, or AI/ML evaluation frameworks.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated experience engaging and influencing senior executives and technical engineering partners.
