Senior Sales Engineer – New England

Remote | Preferred Location: MA, NH, CT, or RI

We are looking for a Senior Sales Engineer to join our New England team. In this role, you will serve as the technical lead throughout the Proofpoint pre-sales process, partnering closely with sales teams, customers, and prospects to design and position solutions that address today’s most pressing cybersecurity challenges.

What You’ll Do

As a Senior Sales Engineer, you will be responsible for leading technical engagement across the sales cycle, including discovery, solution design, product demonstrations, proof-of-concept execution, and technical validation.

You will:

  • Partner with account teams to develop and execute targeted account strategies across the New England region.
  • Build trusted relationships with customers and prospects, serving as their primary technical advisor throughout the evaluation process.
  • Deliver compelling, value-driven product demonstrations tailored to customer requirements and business outcomes.
  • Lead technical discovery with security, IT, messaging, data protection, and AI compliance teams.
  • Plan, execute, and manage Proofs of Concept, production evaluations, and technical validation activities.
  • Design and champion complex human-centric, data-centric, and AI-aware security solutions across the Proofpoint portfolio.
  • Develop expertise across key areas including email security, advanced threat protection, data security, cloud collaboration security, AI governance, and agentic AI security.

Senior-Level Responsibilities

As a senior member of the Sales Engineering organization, you will also help elevate the broader team by contributing to enablement, mentoring, and process improvement.

What You Bring

  • 6+ years of hands-on technical experience in a Sales Engineering, Systems Engineering, Technical Account Management, Security Engineering, senior product support, or similar role.
  • Experience in an externally customer-facing technical role, preferably within cybersecurity.
  • Strong knowledge of email security, data security, cloud/SaaS platforms, email infrastructure, networking, endpoint security, NOC/SOC operations, MSP environments, or related cybersecurity domains.
  • Experience positioning platform-based solutions and connecting technical capabilities to business value.
  • A consultative approach to problem solving and the ability to guide customers through complex technical decisions.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently, adapt quickly, and thrive in a fast-paced, high-energy sales environment.
  • A positive attitude, strong sense of ownership, and a collaborative mindset.

Recommended Experience

Exposure to at least two of the following areas is strongly preferred:

  • IT security, vulnerability management, risk assessments, security operations, and policy enforcement.
  • Data Loss Prevention, compliance, privacy, and data governance.
  • Enterprise email platforms such as Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Lotus Domino, or equivalent environments.
  • SMTP, mail routing, and message transfer agents such as Postfix, Sendmail, or similar technologies.
  • Agentic AI concepts, AI governance, or AI security considerations.

Additional Valuable Skills

Experience in any of the following areas is a plus:

  • Directory services and identity platforms such as Active Directory, Azure AD, LDAP, and identity providers.
  • Email authentication technologies including SPF, DKIM, and DMARC.
  • Core networking and application protocols such as SMTP, DNS, LDAP, HTTP, and related technologies.
  • Strong PowerPoint, presentation, documentation, and executive communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree, advanced degree in a relevant field, or equivalent practical experience.

Location and Travel

This is a remote role supporting the New England region. Preference will be given to candidates located in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut, or Rhode Island.

Travel is required for customer meetings, regional events, team collaboration, and other business needs.
